Software For Caveman DJ Thawed From Ice

For "really simple" it's hard to beat iTunes .. only thing missing is manual cross-fade. Other than that Rock-it is very straightforward as is PCDJ Red Mobile.

IMO, iTunes is one of the worst for playback. It is another tool in the belt but my opinion is that it's at the very bottom of the list.

It's simple and it works. Sound quality is identical to any other application. You can search, make playlists, auto play .. You are only limited in that you can't beat match, scratch, sample, or work 2 decks simultaneously, but not everyone does those things. For a simplistic setup, it works well. Not my first choice, but for an older user might be a starting point.

Winamp might be more difficult especially adding a plug in than Rockit. I use it for most of my needs and I have thawed for several years now. Im ready to upgrade to the new version then I will likely be 100% Rockit. Feels like a cyber Turntable simplified software.

It's not so much the sound quality as it is the iTunes DB. I've had it lock up on me several times. The only explanation that they can give me is that the iTunes DB is a flat file DB that it opens, edits, saves and closes after each playback. For me, that was painful! I think the newer versions of iTunes have relieved some of that but I'll never use it for playback again - although, if it ever could be reliable, it would give me another line out to my mixer from my machine. I already have my VCI hooked up (2 decks). That would essentially give me a 3rd deck. Absolutely correct that you can't mix (any variation - scratch, beatmix, etc) with iTunes (it was never meant to do that) and that not everyone does those things. They are just another 'tool' in the bag if you know how to do them.

I have tried pretty much all of them over the years. Currently I am using Mixmeister V6. I don't like the newer versions at all thats why I stuck with this one (I actually bought 7 and installed it and then uninstalled it)

VDJ is good, PCDJ is more complicated than it needs to be and I waqsn't a fan of OTS at all and apparently from what I have read thier coutomer service sucks.

If I were to do it all over again I would go with Rockit for sure. Easy to learn, easy to use, Stable and if you need support just log on here Rick never sleeps
