I've done some research....
and in my market schools do no more than one video dance a year if they can get it for what they see as affordable. The big thing with them is cost.
If you give that one away you will be waiting until next year to mabye recoup if your market is anything like mine. They just don't see the large investment that it takes to start prodoucing video shows.
Now I am still relativily early in the business plan portion for video dances but the way I see marketing them is an opportunity for the school to make more money than a regular dance. Again in my market Video dances draw 20% to 30% more kids than the regular school dances and the admission is 50% to 100% higher than a regular dance at the school.
You have to make them see they will make alot more by spending a little more then you have to deliver.
Some of the other options I have looked at is taking the door on the first one or offering a discount if I can sell glow or "wholesale" glow to the school.
Another option is to do a few of your own events. Rent a hall and pull off a show. Make it the popular thing to do. It's alot of work in the beginning but remember if it's your show there are other streams of income with the canteen, glow, T-shirt sales etc.
