Ok so i hav my first ever gig on NYE and I am really scared not becasue i cant mix its becuase of my music! My entire music library consists of electro, house, electro house, latin house, reggaeton (alittle) , 90's euro dance ( a litte), and Hip Hop/ Top 40 (harldy any!!)

This is my first gig and I am affraid people arnt going to like it because i wont be able to play their favourite songs. Also, mixing hip hop and top 40 are not my specialty!! Actually really hard to do!!
But anyways I need some advice what to do bc I want people to dance and stuff!!! But i dnt think they will find my music very good and only complain!! It is a house party not a bar or anything!!!

I need adivce fast!!

WTF am I to do !! :sqeek:

I don't mean to be brash but.....

Why did you take this gig if you feel you are not ready to handle it??

Second...your music selection is very crucial to your success. You really need to get on the ball and figure out a game plan.

What age group are you primarily representing, and what is their specific tastes in music.

If you truly are meant for djing, you will figure out what you need to do, and I surely believe you will do just fine.

Another thing, you only have a short time to prepare for this event.

If it was me, I'd contact the person who hired you, and get more detailed info on what exactly they expect. Then, I would get my azz in gear, and do whatever it takes to deliver to the standards they are expecting.

I got to admit, although I wish you the best, I am a little discouraged you put yourself in this predicament knowing you might not fully be the person qualified to handle this event.

After this event, please come back and let us know if you knocked this thing out of the park, or if you just survived.

Next tip: Don't ever take an event if you feel you cannot fully handle it!

How many scared people will be there? Will any other type of people hate it, too?

Just kidding.

DJMN is right. I hate getting out of my comfort zone unless I feel I can tackle the new angle. I am doing a gig on NYE and feel very comfortable about it, but still am doing research today to get it better. Choose that approach -- research your bunz off. That is the obligation you have to the client/attendees now that you signed on.

Well, If I can offer a suggestion. Find the top 100 - 150 songs in a club and get your butt on iTunes so that you have the music people want to hear.

Yeah a house party you better get some music.

FYI about .5% of the US population can actually tolerate electronic music.

And mixing Hip Hop and Top 40 is really easy, don't knoe where you have been.

Grow a thick[er] skin.

Learn to spell [better]. See what I mean about a thicker skin?

Don't pay too much attention to anyone (most especially me)

Except Cam, he knows what he's talking about and Meister, he too knows...don't forget what Hugh said.

Here's the advice: Don't sweat it. Do your best. Do what Meister suggested. Heed Cam. Don't pay attention to DJM, he's just being mean.

Good Luck jumping in the deep end!

One thing you will learn very fast is that you will never please everybody I dont care how good you are and another thing you can never be scared going into a Gig you have to think positive and be sure of yourself.

Hugh and I treat things similar here except I love being out of my comfort zone.

Like the others said do your research. Who is your client? What is the demographic? (age/male to female percentage etc) if they are all 40 and above your hip-hop collection might not cut it.

Focus on age and lifepoints (when the graduated etc) and customs of the event (Auld Lang Sine at midnight) and any DJ can do any event

Remember, It's not your music they hate, it's you. :p

Ok, not really.... But you can't please all the people all the time. Someone will ask for something completely stupid and expect you to play it - RIGHT NOW!

Just find out what they want, make sure you have enough of that for about twice the length of time you're playing for, do as good a job as you can possibly do, and don't sweat the small stuff.

BTW, it's nearly all small stuff. ;)

Jeezus..... asking this kind of thing 1 day prior.... WOW!

Ok, here's the deal.... you need to first off know what kind of music the place is expecting... are they hillbillies looking for Southern Rock or Country, are they urbanites looking for the latest in Urban, Top 40 and Hip-Hop, Are they punkers looking for alternative rock etc...

Like Cam said once you figure that out you had better quick, like the Energizer Bunny, hop on iTunes or Amazon and start buying the crap out of those genre's.

Also take a look at the Top 100 billboard charts for say the past 5 years for more music ideas.

Other than that... Good Luck!

Too little too late y'all, but thanks for tryin'!

Somethin tells me this is gonna be a life-lesson for our new friend here!

The true test will be in how he picks himself up and dusts himself off tomorrow morning!:sqlaugh:

Best of luck with the gig!

I just hope it is a freebie that he is doing! For a small group of his friends!:sqwink:

I did my gig at the old folks home last night started at 8:30 was set to go until 12:30 had to run about 50 of them out at 1:30. Youngest in the room was myself and the activities director. Had a full dance floor the majority of the night, I sang over 25 songs last night, over 20 by request!

Music was everywhere from Big Band, Sinatra, Martin, Cole, lot of the 50's and 60's, Beatles, Lot of Bob Seger, Aerosmith, ACDC, Yes, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, Ted Nuggent, Marron 5, Madonna request, Electric slide, Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Single Ladies. And some Akon Request LOL, Did a total of 4 country songs the whole night! Plus had a disco set that went over very well with the ladies!

The oldest couple "Fred and Kathlyn" both in their 90's danced to two requested songs sung by me back to back "You Belong To Me" and "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"!

I was exhausted when I got home

Just a note here, I knew going into this gig that i would be requested to sing a lot so I took the Karma System instead of the system with Rockit on it, Karma worked very well since i was able to set cue points on the karaoke songs and work the fade function so that there was no dead air from DJ to Karaoke or from Karaoke to Dj music!

Chillax

Most people have a way of really getting into music bra. Just relax play the **** u do well, keep beats that make people move. Youll be surprised how well the people and yourself have!

Balanced Line: Mean? Or quite honest? Flip a coin.

DeeJay Chach where are ya? We need some details.

And Mr. Chach, if ya think my post was mean, that is your personal opinion. My personal opinion is willing to bet that you went and did your best, and you did fine, but I know, and you know, you were not fully ready to handle this event!
