I used my 310A's once at a venue alone. It was an old house; my dance floor was one of the rooms that measured perhaps 15' by 15' open to a hall way and another room the same size...100 guests. I put them on the floor and got some great couple with the old hardwood. Lots of bottom end...great sound.

This is the exception; I don't know that I'd ever use them alone for the "dance" portion....

As far as the EV's; I really can't see using them, let alone a ceremony or cocktail hour, for the dance portion, with out a sub or 2

My guess is you can get them closer to ~400.00 as compass is not the cheapest place....
I own SB2A, ZX-1 and RCF 310A. I'm going to buy SB122 as well so if you ever going to sell them, let me know.

My system is very flexible. I can run many different configurations:

2 SB2A and 2 ZX-1
2 SB2A and 4 ZX-1
2 SB2A and 2 RCF 310A
2 SB2A and 2RCF 310A and 2 ZX-1
2 SB2A and 2RCF 310A and 4 ZX-1
2 SB2A and 2 SB122 and 2 RCF310A

No need for amp!
 
Wow, $500 for a passive 10" cabinet, that seems like a lot of money to me.

I can only imagine what the active version costs, probably $899. That's a lot of jack IMO.

I know, I know, the good stuff costs more . . . but that's still a lot . . .

I'm not raking in the big buck yet like Stevie M. :sqlaugh:
 
Active one you can under 600.00. Very good value if you compare them to new JBL...

On the contrary, my work includes dancing ..to the max.

I do mostly wedding receptions, and Sweet 16's.
Been doing this kind of work for more than 30 years.

The point I was making is that these revolutionary new speakers have made it possible to both lighten the load , and deliver the sound that the audience demands.

After you get a chance to listen to these in a few months, I know that you will look at it from a totally different prospective.

And that's subjective. It depends upon what your audiences demand, Steve.

For some of us, weight isn't the only consideration for a FOH system. Losing load in weight is a tradeoff. You may get loaded in faster. You may not break a sweat. You may be able to load it all in the wife's minivan.

But I can tell you this: You'll be hard pressed to override Wolfie's system in the adjacent room where they're gittin' down and the walls are rattling.

If you can show me an 8" two-way cabinet that can do what our bi-amped system with 18" cabinets can do, we've got a deal. Otherwise, all you've got is an overpriced coffeehouse PA for vocals and Muzak.

To quote Scottie in the Star Trek series, "You can't change the laws of physics." ;)
 
I love it. Very light and it takes 5 minutes to set up. Beats hands down most of 15" speakers. I'm talking JBL, Mackie, RCF, FBT, etc, Beside, i don't like the look of 15" speaker on the stick. Nothing classy or elegant.
I'm not afraid to use it up to 200 people. If the venue size is huge I will add 2 RCF's.




anzyxx, how do you like your Sb2a and Zx1 combo? Are you pleased with the performance? Would you recommend it to someone? How many people would you use them for?
 
Actually they cheated the laws of physics somewhat...this new system digitally enhances the low end to produce sound not normally possible with a small cone/driver. (At least that's how they explained it, I'll have to see how the spec sheet describes it and get back to ya)

It sounds like they used something like some sort of internal sonic maximizer type of electronics to produce sub harmonic frequencies? Add as beefier cone, heavy duty voice coil, big, strong magnet, throw into the gizmotron and out comes a small speaker that sounds like a much bigger speaker. I don't even care how they did it, if it sounds good and it's reasonably priced, it's small and lightweight, I'm on it like white on rice.

I hate setting up and I'm sweating my a$$ off. No way I'm lifting over 50 pounds up onto a stand, my 33 pound Sx100s are heavy enough. Logistically I love the idea of toting around smaller boxes. I'd rather tote 4 smaller boxes that two biga$$, heavy ones. And yes Fred, I drive a dang minivan. :sqlaugh:

the 310's shine when it comes to vocals...These are 28lb boxes at $600 or so....I'd do 300 person weddings with them (with subs of course). With a sub, I think the 310's sound better than my FBT Maxx 6A's (I think they go louder as well).

Go active with these; you won't be disappointed....
 
First off I very seldom even use a 15" unit without a sub and never use anything smaller than 15" without a sub.

My old DTH system used 210 tops and had an awesome output of 103 SPL @ 1w1m capable of easily hitting 132 DB with power handling of 1200 Watts but they had to be crossed at 110 DB anything below that they simply could not handle.

What you have to look at with smaller cabinets 10" or less is the crossover point and low frequency handling of that unit.

Also if the 1w1m numbers start falling below 98 to 96 the unit simply is weak and is not going to produce the SPL on the top end.
 
Steve & Steve, their not listening...

People don't seem to 'th-understand' (like that?) that they are getting 127dB out of a little full range box. They don't think about which freq's are tripping the SPL meter at that level. If they think they are getting the same bass output as a 15" sub-woofer peaking at 127dB they are sadly mistaken... The sub's output would have been measured up to the sub's cut-off freq of around 120Hz. While the full range cabinet's peak reading could have been achieved anywhere between it's normal freq response, most likely between 50Hz to 16,000Hz. Do some folks really think that little 8 inch box is going to be putting out 127dB at 100Hz? Can you say blaring mid-range? I like the way you say that... I would love to see they freq graph of that cab while at full output.

Come on guys, you are smarter than 'digitally enhanced' bass response... Can you say EQ? All it means is that a little processing has been done where certain freq's have been boosted or cut as needed to help achieve a flat freq response. How do you think FBT & RCF have gotten such great bass out of their little boxes? While it will help at low output levels, it will not do anything at higher output levels. There is no magic speaker here guys, just great marketing. If you think a Chinese made Celestion driver is going to be superior to an American made EV or Italian made RCF or B&C, you are due for a reality check.

PS: Say hi to my mother in law for me. She also lives in 'La La Land'....
 
Steve, you're forgetting one thing. these guys were in the room and heard the speakers. If they sounded like crap I think they would have said so. At this point QSC has my interest and attention, but hearing the actual production model speakers will be the true test. If they sound good then where is the rub? If they don't, shuffle along, keep looking for the holy grail of great sound in a small light weight box.

I don't understand that if FBT and RCF are such good products and I have no doubts that they are, why aren't they being sold by more dealers and more commonly available like EV, Peavey, JBL, Mackie etc.?

They are fairly new to the North American market, is why... EV, Peavey, JBL, Mackie are all old, very well known US based companies. FBT & RCF are both very well known / popular and sold all over Europe.
