I am looking for recommendations on a Make & Model for a Controller.
I want to use it as a back up for my laptop. I will have the laptop and two Identical Hard Drives, one as a backup.
If the laptop fails, I want to use a controller to access the music on the Hard drive. I want a controller that also have CD drawers to play CDs/MP3s on Discs, and to play MP3s from the hard drive (Its own or an external). II am looking at a range of about $700.00. Is that reasonable (Remember this is mainly for backup purposes)
What are your choices and why?

Another option and the way I went is pick up another laptop on eBay. Load a free player like Winamp on the backup laptop.

I was thinking along those lines too. I can have the same DJ software and its playlists on the backup laptop. I can also use that backup laptop for slide shows etc. Great Idea!

I just bought my 3rd laptop for uplighting and back up as well.
160 gb and 1.5 gb memory with xp. Under 500.00
It will run traktor pro and freestyler.
Will it actual run Traktor? Plus how are you going to see... Im debating buying a 17" for Traktor... Freetyler could be okay on it though...

It will for sure.
I'm using it to read ebooks and no problem so far...
Stay away from 17", too bulky. I went from 10" all the way to 19" and back.
Very happy with 14".

A fellow Traktorer, thats great!:sqlaugh:

the hd2500 is the only one I know that will not only be a controller for your computer, but will play stored mp3 files from it's own hard drive as well as externals.

the other thing the hd2500 will do is be an INCREDIBLE sound card.

So, in addition to being a very capable back up, you will get a lot of use out of it with your computer.

I don't know how much the cd player add on is, but I would consider trying it without it first. You may realize you don't even need it.

i've seen the hd2500 priced around $599 lately
