I've begun to see these come through on a lot of junk mail advertising discounts, etc. I've also only seen them used once for a legitimate marketing purpose. So I would say make sure that it is done correctly and that you don't end up being associated with junk mailers and discounters.

I had no idea either and I don't use a smart phone so they are of no use to me.

Welcome to the oh tens decade Dave. Everything has to be quick, easy & mobile accessible. It seems like you get peoples attention for less than 20 seconds and you need to make the most of it.

Just curious -- have you ever considered advertising, instead of using inventory tracking technology?

I hear it's the new rage... ;) :)

But they are useful to clients that do... think electronic business card that can be instantly scanned and entered into a persons contacts app and easily shared... I've placed one in my sig line for outgoing mail.

i'll pass!

I know you're being wise, but other people may not realize the potential.

Put it on a business card (possibly on the back?) and people instantly scan it in as a contact. All of the info you want is entered with no spelling errors. Put it on a sticker and put them on all of your gear. It looks like inventory tag as you mention, but knowledgeable people (those who embrace smartphones) will scan it to see what it is, possibly calling you to return gear that someone left behind at a venue.......:triwink:

You can also use it as a link to your website as I did. When you do that you can have it go to a specific page so you can track responses and measure the use.

Put it on flyers with a web link to specific into about that event. People are jumping on this and I'm trying to give everyone the heads up. There are many uses. It's free technology that you can put to work for you. Or ignore it while your competition embraces it and passes you by....

Or have it available at Bridal shows and link to your pamphlets and information about you on the linked websites. Something a Bride can store on her smartphone, iphone, ipad, ipod, etc. This way she always has your information with her. I'll be offering some of my vendors this exact technology in the next few weeks. It is very useful technology and people are going to find more and more uses for it. I've seen it in action and it is really neat technology.

I was only being somewhat of a wise ass ;)

Let's face it -- it was designed for inventory tracking. Apparently, it has taken on a life of its own now... :sqerr:

I think my point was (it was late in the afternoon), that advertising is simply the best way to brand your company in the public's mind, and techno doohickeys like this, are only passing fads, that have no long lasting branding value...
