This has been a PIA, it doesn't help that i'm indecisive, but I always had my heart set on a pair of yorkvilles, and I had the chance to buy a pair of LS801Ps for $1800. (I think I still could if i called my friend whos selling them) But after talking with ben and Arnoldo, they really are impressed with the 118P's.

Many of you know my main focus is on these school dances, I rarely run subs with our weddings, and when we do, I have mmy JBL PRX618-XLF still.

Arnoldo and Ben pointed out some great points on the 118P's. EV is a strong brand, they require little power to run, and they have a great output! I just am worried i'm going to pick up 2-4 of these and that 700 watt amplifier isnt going to be able to keep up with us at our larger proms (600-800 students)

I also was eyeballing the JBL SRX728's.

Ugh, can we get a good solid discussion going on these?

"Pulling the trigger ??" - you make it sound like Russian Roulette. Why gamble?

Rent a pair for a gig - or ask your buddy whose selling them if he will rent them to you once or twice. This way you can try them out and know for sure whether it will or will not satisfy you.

Don't you usually try on an unknown pair of shoes before you buy them? Speakers really shouldn't be any different.

I would say if you told ben and Arnoldo what you were looking for and both suggested that, you'll have no problems. Use them and enjoy.

I can vouch for the JBL SRX 728s but you will need a beast of an amplifier to drive dem suckers. You would not be disappointed.

if you want amazing tone with the Thump I would stick with the EV as I have used both and have a keen sense of hearing. WEith the Yorkvilles they have very proper thump but unless processed properly the Tone is the only weakness.

I think with school events; "boom" trumps "tone" (if in fact there is a difference)..and really what tone do you get from half the hip hop dance stuff anyway?

The other consideration is warranty:

Yorkville:

As a Yorkville dealer located in Canada or the U.S.A. you should be aware that there is an UNLIMITED 2-YEAR "EVEN IF YOU BREAK IT" WARRANTY on all of the products that we make. Furthermore, we don’t care if you are the dealer who originally sold or rented it. As long as it is an electronic product or speaker system of our manufacture which was purchased by a consumer as a new unit within the past two years, or first rented as a new unit within the past two years, just fix it, or get it fixed, and send us the bill. That’s virtually all there is to it. What voids the warranty? Virtually nothing voids the warranty*. In simple terms, if it needs repairs for any reason during its 2-YEAR warranty period, it is covered.

EV - 3 years... "no "you break it" warranty

I have heard and used both now so I can safely say thump is great from both. Tonal value the EV Rocks.

So I ended up with the LS801PB's! They were in great condition and still are covered under warranty.

Once we got them home, I hooked one up, and threw a K12 on top of it, and turned it on 1/4 of a way, and I had this horrible rattle. turned it off, couldnt see what was making the noise, turned it up 1/2 way and it just got worse.... Turns out... It was vibrating all truss in our trailer about 30ft away! HOLEY JEBUS!!! THESE THINGS THUMP!!!!! By far, hands down... THE BEST SUB IVE EVER HEARD!!!

Can I say " I told you so"?

For school dances - these are the boxes...i had to shoo kids away from them...Couple them; they'll make you puke.....

Those things are INSANE!!!! I got them home and lifted them out of my SUV with ease (weren't too bad). I wanted to hook one up and just play some tracks on it to get a feel for it... Well I hook one up outside and i turn it up 1/4 of the way and its making this god awful rattle, turn it down looked at it, didnt see anything that could be it, turn it up again but louder and same deal, just this horrible rattle... turned out, it was vibrating my trailer full of truss and staging about 30 ft away...

UN-FREAKIN-BE-LEAVE-ABLE!!!

JJDJ...sounds like you got a fantastic deal on those Yorks. As you know I only have one, but then that appears to be plenty for now...unless I end up doing a few more 700 person events or a school dance or two.

You probably made the right choice. I'm prejudiced...but my ears and body tell me the same thing...they rock! or should I say rattle everything that isn't locked down tightly. LOL
