What is the prompt? And do you need MacAffe?
I've used nothing but the built in Windows Defender tools and have no issues. Only time I would suggest more heavy duty AV software is if you go online a lot with the laptop.
I never have it on line.Been clicking it out of the way for years.I am talking about whatever came with the laptop.
Uninstall McAfee through Add/Remove programs. If you practice safe browsing Windows Defender and the occasional Malware Bytes scan is all you need.
Of course, if you're asking the question of how to remove McAfee you might not be the safest browser in the first place. No offense. Use a modern browser (Firefox, Chrome) and install an Adblocker.

Caveat .. if you are using this machine in any functional capacity (performance), then you need A/V on it. You might not need McAfee, but you do need some kind of AV (Windows Defender is acceptable). Additionally, use a modern browser as suggested. What is the prompt from McAfee - this helps us, help you.
