Poker Face - Misheard Lyric

If you've ever heard the acapella copy of this song you'd know it's not what she says.

It's somewhat comical to me how people can really convince themselves that a song says something it actually does not. It reminds me of the people who think they hear backmasked messages in songs when there really isn't anything there. True, there is backmasking in some song, but many times people hear something that is simply not there.

Here's the thing, and something I can attest to from working in a studio environment numerous times in my life, syllables can lose some of their sharpness and emphasis after editing/effects have been added to the vocals. It's easy to lose the impact of a plosive. Especially since, on this song, her voice has a phaser (panning effect) that causes some aspects of her voice to be lost, reverb which also "smooths out" the sound of her voice, and an autotuner which can completely change the sound of a voice...essentially you bastardize the singers original voice. This is what we call "studio magic". :sqwink:
 
There are absolutely 100% without a doubt two versions of this song. Not a chance in the world that there are not two different versions, I just heard them both within hours of one another and my assistant and I discussed how you could clearly hear the difference. Again, not a chance that there are not two versions being played on XM. Dude, I have been doing this DJ thing for about 20 years, no chance that I am wrong about what I heard.

Just because you have an Acapella version means its the only version out there? That is as ludicrous as saying that Lyrics.com says these are the words of the song so it must be official. Even when an album sleeve says one thing many artists keep from getting the PG13 sticker by skipping or replacing any questionable lyric.

Feel free to take into account my experience in the studio. It's clear to me what effects are causing it to sound like she might be saying "f**k", and I'm NOT only talking about the acapella version. However, I should add, that when you listen to the acapella version you can hear more of her voice which helps you to understand how her vocals might be misunderstood/misinterpreted.

We already know this song is talking about her vagina, this song is about sex/sexuality, I highly doubt she would feel the need to be so subtle with this.
 
ok Roffy you win. I happen to know a thing or two about multiple recordings though and if listening side by side someone is hearing two different things perhaps it holds some merit. Not discrediting your version or acapella and knowledge. Im just saying there have been different versions of the same song recorded over the yrs. Look at the made for walmart versions for a simple example. Lots of 12 inch singles have different versions than the original with more explicit stuff than Gaga would even consider.
 
haha, I'm not looking for sarcastic congratulations. I just thought it was funny that my thoughts on it were being completely disregarded because I "don't hear it"...but the fact of the matter is that I am hearing everything there is to be heard, in fact, I feel that I have heard more than most because I've actually broke it down and listened to what specific effects are being used on her voice and how that affects the way we are hearing it. I've already acknowledged that I can understand HOW someone might hear it.

I've heard this song on satellite radio, radio, the album, promo, acapella...and I have yet to hear a version that says anything other than "poker face". I guess I got left out of the club that let's me hear the explicit version.
 
Roffy neither have I but I am saying that if someone said they heard two different versions or even better yet two or more said that a particular satellite station had in fact played different versions just hours apart I believe it is possible there is two different versions as I have worked radio and know about the different releases as well. You are saying there isnt such an animal and Im saying that though perhaps you are correct. It isnt 100% truth as you cant really prove your point unequivocally.

Your thoughts are not being dismissed. The fact of the matter is that there is a minimum of two versions out there.

There is the radio version, which has the "Ps" very clearly audible, and then there's the other version which, by "studio magic" makes the song a bit more provocative, and digitizes, and bends the voice and the "Ps" to sound a little more like "Fs".

You can talk all the stuido sh|t you want but the fact remains that there is something different about the two versions that I have heard, and it's VERY clear.

there are multiple versions of darn near EVERY song that comes out these days.
remember "She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd?
the obvious F-Bomb in the chorus was edited out in varying degrees
so radio stations could play the version they were most comfortable with.
there was the CLEAN edit
the NOT SO CLEAN edit
the SQUEAKY CLEAN edit
the ALBUM VERSION
etc
How about Tom Petty's "You Dont Know How It Feels"
where the line about ROLLING another joint
was changed to HITTING another joint
so the more conservative stations could play it.

but I admit, it's very possible that people only hear what they want to hear. How many times have you heard someone sing the wrong lyrics to a song?
 
if you think just this song is a problem how about going over the other 5million songs that have lyrics that could be said the same way

just move on its like any other song that was the same way
