As cool as modern DJ gear is, I'm happy to be viewing it in my rear view mirror. I DJ about a dozen weddings and youth events annually now, and I'm mainly focused on A/V support and live event production. I want to be all hands-on for as long my hands will keep working.
The "music" was never the best part of being a DJ - that was the people we play too, and the challenge of manipulating gear that was never meant to do what we were using it to do. Now that the gear and software does it all for me and music is any collection of sounds someone cares to stream - it all seems quite contrived.
