I agree with this opinion! I just think, the best software for Club DJ is Serato and the best for the rest is UltraMixer, because it's very stable and I like the usability
Never heard of UltraMixer, but maybe they don't focus much on us "across the pond". I agree Serato is probably a given for club jocks, for mobile it's all over the map depending on what help you want, what controller you use, and what features are most attractive.
I don't use a lot of the application's bells and whistles .. so for me, the main meat of Traktor (just got it), PCDJ (Red Mobile 2), Rockit! (don't use it anymore), Serato (I have an older version) and VDJ Express (came with a controller) .. all are about the same. From a few feet back, they all visually look the same as well .. same dual deck .. same file management look. I suppose if I used filters and lots of cue points and played with effects and waveforms or did the scratch thang or used turntables as controllers, they'd be different .. but for me they're essentially the same, so I will most likely pare them down to Traktor (which I also have on my iPad) and maybe PCDJ (since I've used it the longest) .. and probably just to Traktor when I get comfortable with it. I might also consider VDJ .. mainly because of the cheap monthly ContentUnlimited subscription costs for music and karaoke files.
I WOULD like to find one that seamlessly blends in karaoke, since I still do that .. all the DJ apps that support CDG do it minimally .. not enough to manage a session.
I agree with Steve's opinion as well .. however Serato is also good for mobile use - I and others use it. It all comes down to what YOU want and like.
All the three top DJ software are fully capable to be used by a club dj or mobile/wedding dj the biggest difference is that the atomix (the corporate name of Virtual DJ) function built into Virtual DJ is very mature and feature rich compared to the other two and for dinner music this is a bonus. It removes silent spaces and beat matches transitions much like a real person where as Serato just plays the songs back to back silence spaces at the beginning and end of songs included and the cruse mode in Traktor is not much better....
David you can set Traktor to mix or loop before automixing. I set mine 20 seconds in a blend. When it has 20 seconds to go the next track starts playing in a smooth blend. The first travk then gently fades off. You can also program it to have a fast or slow transition.
I Know this Canute but VDJ does this based on the silence at the track beginning or end. Some recordings have long blank spaces on the ends or beginning and VDJ analyze each track and removes them so its variable and dynamic and fully automatic. Also it has the options that you have mentioned...

I didn't try so many so many programs like you, never heard about Rockit for example. But if you don't know UltraMixer: try it.
If you didn't buy it, it's like a testversion for an hour.
It's also possible to leave out silence at the track beginning or end like drizinc said. And Automixing like ahoustondj said. But I don't want to advertise.

Rockit is (was?) a basic DJ application written by one of this boards members, who unfortunately passed away a year or so ago. Rock solid performance, but limited in controller selection and did not connect to an iTunes library (a killer for me). I bought a copy since the author was in a cash flow situation, but never really got to playing with it.
VDJ and Serato came with gear I bought and I used an older version of VDJ cobranded by Numark (Cue). Just bought Traktor (Black Friday sale in Nov) .. haven't really played with it, but have on the iPad, so it will be part of the stable .. VDJ is a possible upgrade just to get into the low-cost content library for karaoke.
For me, I want a full-featured Karaoke app .. that also is a decent DJ app. VDJ and UltraMixer "play" karaoke, but don't have the higher end features to run a karaoke night (pitch control/multiplex disc handling/singer rotations/scrolling messages). VDJ has a little .. but nowhere near the fairly simple Just Karaoke 2 I use. For now I'm OK with 2 apps .. I just keep searching and hoping I'll find a better one.
