My luck ran out today. My old PC died. Both usb-c charge ports are dead. The two models that really fit the bill aren't available till mid June. Either would set me back about $4k with 5 year in home next day support. I can't wait a month plus. Costco has an HP with a Panther Lake processor, the ports I need, memory and storage I want and most importantly, will be here on Tues. Unfortunately, I have to sacrifice the support I wanted and it weighs about 6 Oz more than I would like. It is still lighter than my old PC though. It costs only about half so I may buy a spare if I like it.
I have been using my 17" Asus for years.
It's Windows 7, which is horribly outdated, but suits me much better that newer versions.
It's getting old, the screen flickers if not adjusted correctly, and I'm starting to get messages about my operating system being outdated for certain programs and apps.
But I truly HATE Win10 and 11.
My kids bought me a new Asus SSD Vivobook, which I do like.
I would switch over, but it's very small, and doesn't have enough storage.
I realize the old guy isn't gonna last forever, so I am looking into upgrading the specs on the new one.
My vote went for "bigger is better".
Cause my old eyes like the bigger screen, and my old fingers like the bigger keys.

I get you. My dead laptop is Win10. My work laptop and my wife's laptop both have Win 11. I really don't care for it. However, after all those vulnerabilities found by Claude Mythos AI, I think it is important to run an OS that gets security updates. I expect a slew of them will be released soon.
Honestly, what I hate the most about Windows 10 and 11 is the auto select feature when you hover too long. .And even worse, you can't turn it off.
Hate to think of what would happen in the middle of a gig if it decided to "select" something.
@Ausumm, I am not sure what you mean by the auto-select feature. I don't seem to be experiencing that.
The one thing I noticed is that Win 11 wanted to install the Windows Recall feature that keeps taking snapshots of your screen. I disabled it right away. It is like having Big Brother watching over you.
So far, my new laptop is OK. Still getting used to the new keyboard feel. It is different than both my Dells that I have used the last 7 years, but not bad at all. The trackpad has a different feel, but I am getting the hang of that too. The new laptop is about a 1/4 narrower left to right but about 3/4 inch deeper front to back. That little change to the aspect ratio actually feels weird to me. However, the 3K display is amazing and much brighter than my older Dells.

If you leave the mouse pointer hovering over something that is clickable, the computer will automatically select it as if you clicked on it.
I have never seen that behavior. It would drive me mad if I had.
