Mike,
I had to fill in for a wedding once at the last minute (my brother in laws wife went into labor, and he was scheduled for it).
He gave me a quick heads up on the gig -- which he said he knew was gonna be tough. The groom said that all he wanted was greek and jazz, and that none of the guests liked dancing, top 40, etc.
When I got there, the groom handed me a stack of vinyl, and said only play what's on these (even had post it notes on each record), and the agreed upon greek and jazz.
So I did. Then people started coming up wanting regular dance music, etc. They were miserable, and wanted to party. So, I throw on a couple 80's dance tunes (this was back in the 80s), and the floor filled up, and the party was rocking! Put on some Motown, and they were going nuts.
Then the groom comes up and starts yelling at me -- makes me shut down the music, so all could hear his rant. So, I did what he said, and went back to the stuff he wanted.
Pretty much, everybody but the bridal party left after that scene (and it was a very large reception)...
Just my thoughts, but you might never know how successful a party can be, unless you let the DJ do their job...![]()
I love you Rick, but it seems he chose the music he did because he wanted it. We chose the music we did because we know our guests and their tastes (which match ours a lot). Apples and oranges. I guarantee you that there are 2 people there who will request things that we have on the do not play list, but they will understand because they know we HATE (I mean H*A*T*E) that type of music.
Mike
