Numark: Total Control

So, I had been thinking about a mix controller for VDJ for a while now... I looked at several different options: BCD3000, Hercules, and Numark.

After finding a great deal on ebay for the Numark: Total Control I took the plunge.

And I went ahead and purchased one of these:


My first impression when unpacking it was "it's mostly plastic" It had some weight to it but overall it looks like a toy. But, that's where the similarities between a toy and the Total Control ends.

The jog wheels are very nice, not being a mix DJ, they feel good. The slider's leave a little to be desired as far as touch and feel but seem to be accurate within the software.

If you are use to searching through your libary with a mouse and keyboard this is probably not going to change that. Although you can navigate through your library using the push/rotary dial it's not as simple as it seems. It is nice that you can just press a load button and have the track go directly to a deck vs draging and dropping it there.

These are my first impressions and as I said the Numark: Total Control is a nice unit but will take some getting use to for this non-wiki wiki DJ.

I've tried both the Cue LE that came with the controller and VDJ with it... trust me you'll be upgrading to VDJ if you don't already have it.... if you do have VDJ skip the Cue LE install....

It really offers no way to sort a library short of Virtual Folders but then you have to manually add content to the folders.....

However, it will play your itunes libary....

I still find it easier to search my library via the keyboard and mouse but to find that using the controller to do the advance mixing to be a plus for sure.... even though I'm still a beginner and just using very basic mixing techniques I find it loads easier through the controller vs keyboard short cuts and a mouse.
