HAve a wedding saturday where the bride wants a diff song for each couple entering the reception - 8 songs in total.

Since I want to play the part of the song that is most recognizable and I want about 5 seconds of time to announce the names I'm editing the songs..the original idea was to just cut off the front.

But it turns out I'm cutting and splicing to get the results I want, and its working well. It's not nearly as hard to do as I first suspected it would be, to get a seemless result.

3 down, 5 to go...
 
Fair warning, if you try to pre-plan those track lengths that tight you're asking for trouble. Just one drunk groomsman who is slow coming out or decides he wants a bit longer spotlight and you're toast. Been there done that and that's why I now cut off the head of each track and use the playlist to bounce to the next length-edited track.

I put 5-8 seconds of 'start' on each song and then left 1.5 to 2 minutes of the rest of it. Never seen anyone take that long to go sit down.

now can I get the words out of my mouth in 6 seconds? If not, no big disaster really.

gonna practice it a few times to be sure of course. In my spare time, those hours between 2 and 5 am.LOL

Oh, I misunderstood, sorry. I thought you were saying you were piecing together one big track with 5-6 seconds cut out of each song for that couple's introduction. Sounds like you have it down. As much PITA as those kinds of intros can be, they're almost always off the chain good.

For me, it's part of the service and takes me no more than 10 minutes of work. Calling this "custom intros" would be lying; we're simply playing a different song for each couple. It's the difference between pressing "play" once, or firing off six or seven cue points.

Besides, if you charge accordingly from the start, little enhancements like this don't matter. I'd rather be the DJ who was willing to do something extra for my clients with no holdback vs. being the guy who wanted an additional $50 for what turns out to be a really simple task.

Many ways to do this - the lazy way might be just start each song at the beginning. They didn't ask for any more than that. And I didn't promise more as in mixing, editing, custom work, etc isn't in my advertising/marketing.

I think it could be something to add, probably as an included upsell - 'custom editing/intro with monogram and an extra hour" for $150 more. Not everyone will take you up on it some it becomes profit overall - sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you.

I probably have 60-90 minutes in this - first time and all, plus there are 9 songs total. I've got a new skill - something I can sell. What I need to do is announce this well and video it and get it on my website.

One of the most often asked questions is 'what are like as a dj' and what better way to show it? and if it sucks, well, I can learn from watching it.

Now if I could truly do this via the ipad remote app I'd look like a star to them and on the video perhaps (probably need multiple angles..). Simple ideas can get so out of hand so fast.
