Hey guys I am looking for a camera for my company and I would love a D90 but it is out of my price range. So I was looking at a Canon XSi or Nikon D3000 or D5000. I do theatrical and concert work, so I am looking for the best depth of field, most manual control, and the best camera under a variety of lighting conditions. What do you guys think?

Mike

Not familiar with the Nikons myself (I'm a Canon guy) but love my 5D as it is a full frame DSLR which becomes important for things like low light, motion, high contrast shots you might find in your situation. look for a 2.8 lens and a full frame DSLR and you'll be happy. Spend as much as your budget will allow. Don't skimp on the glass.

Not familiar with the Canon (I'm sure they are an excellent camera) as we're a Nikon family ( 1 - D70, 2 - D80's & 1 - D300) and have had excellent results from all of them...

mmmmm i might look at this one the Pentax K-x

looks good

Well I pulled the triger and got the Pentax Kx with two lenses. 18 -55 55-300

Cool. I got the D5000, I love it. I got the 18-55 lens and I am waiting on the 50 prime. Anyone recommend a good zoom for low light from 80-150 feet?

Mike

I know with a lot of the "Professional" grade cameras... you have to aim and shoot using the view finder and not the LCD screen is that true of the Pentax?

BTW I hate using view finders since I wear glasses it makes it very difficult to use.

This camera as any dslr has a real viewfinder but it also has live view (see what you are shooting on the lcd) but this slows down the camera and wastes battery life. The big advantage of slr is the viewfinder the pentax has a focus adjustment on the viewfinder so you do not have to use your glasses when using the camera.

The D5000 has this as well.
