I received an amplifier from an E-Bay seller yesterday. As I carried it, I heard a sound that isn't the kind of sound you want to hear from an amplifier that is turned off. It was brand new old stock.

I don't know how UPS managed to do it but they whacked this thing so hard it ripped the four welded threaded inserts that hold a big honkin' power transformer right out of the bottom of the steel case. The Crown guy said he never heard of that happening before. Need you ask what Brown can do for you? Turn good gear into crap. Not a scratch on the case and it was shipped in the original box and packing. It is sitting next to the door ready for UPS to review their handiwork.

Before you ask, it is a CP660. A six channel, sixty watt per channel amplifier. The channels can be bridged for 120 watts. It makes a nice bi-amp rig for smaller speakers by putting 120 watts directly to each woofer and 60 watts to each tweeter. All this in two rack spaces.
 
It COULD be an internal defect on just that one amp, especially when they say they've never heard of that happening during shipping.
 
Well yeah sure it could be Wayde but I've had an awful lot of stuff turned into junk by UPS but never by FedEx...yet.

In any case, I guess we'll never know for sure.
 
I'm saddened to hear, Bob. The Goon Squad will make it right... they'll pay to have your amp repaired.

Remember, UPS is pronounced "Oops". :D
 
I saw video's of the DHL shipping hub in Ohio...

They were talking in the film about "The sheer volume of packages and freight that pass through our facilitys everyday" (This was an internal DHL video)

Mark my words......It they can pick it up, They WILL THROW Your packages in to the shipping cribs which fit inside of the cargo bays on there aircraft...

I seen the freight claims first hand.....It's cheaper for them to fix it, or write it off than to be nice to your stuff.....They only care about getting the crap on to the aircraft in the small window of time they have to do so...
 
A friend of mine works for UPS. Airplanes you can [kinda] understand. Mega expensive to sit on the ground. I can't remember the time frame but I was impressed by how little time a UPS er, uh, OOPS worker gets to empty one of those forty? forty something? footers. And it included the low belly below the floor. When I heard the small amount of time, like under an hour, I said you know stuff just has to get broken
 
when working for the Jacuzzi center in Vegas I worked with shipping and receiving for a time and saw the shenanigans going on when loading boxes. Yes OOPS was a shining example of such abuse. No offense Val!
 
I workd for UPS some time ago, at one of the biggest hubs here on the east coast. Were were expeceted scan and load 400 packages an hour. We just threw tings at the walls of the truck if you seen how things were thrown around and beat you would never use UPS.

On my sort we used to talk about how many things we broke in a night.

Trucks are low loaded. There is a roller in the middle of the truck and flaps open to the bottom, packages got scanned and kicked off the rollers.
 
the guys used to bet on three wall throws and four wall throws. everyone put in 10 dollars (everything is a gamble in Vegas) the one who racked up the most points took the pot. The Shop white board was set up as a score board for the end of day shift truck run.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Part of my duties are to package/ship items ($5K to $100K value) and have NEVER had the contents damaged in transit via UPS. I've been doing this for 12 years and it's all in how you prepare the item for shipment. I would say that Crown didn't have sufficiently engineered packing for the weight and size.
 
Keith I was involved with the packing of our parts and though we built in measures we also had several claims from UPS when bubble wrapping all of our parts etc.

The problem nowadays is that everybody wants their item yesterday. UPS and the other shipping companies have no choice but to throw things around, as consumers we practically demand it. I worked for Canada Post for 5 years, I unloaded trucks and sorted parcels, I delivered parcels and I delivered mail. I can tell you that the time given to unload 5 trucks, sort the parcels, separate the regular mail and load the big truck is not enough time.
By the way any package marked "FRAGILE" just means you have to throw it underhand.
