Need Suggestions on a better Karaoke Song Book Solution

I have two sets of books one set by Artists and another set by Title. I divide each book into 4 parts (2" Binders), in other words I divide A-F, L-M, N-S, T-Z. So even thought there are 8 Books out on the table, each one is different. This allows 8 people to search simultaneously and interact with each other. I also inform them that I have new songs which are not yet in the book so they would come up and request them.

Canute .. If you don't have them, get some binders with slip in front covers. You can design a nice cover sheet (like DJCC showed) and change them as needed.

There is another KJ that does his books like this. Drives me up the wall looking for a song #. I don't want to walk around the bar looking for other books.

You can get them comb bound for around $2-3 each and spirial bound for around $4-5 each. The binder cost me about $100 and them combs, covers and backs are cheap.

I do it myself because I also use the binder to make proposals for schools dances and such. I also make my own "booking schedule".

I print a copy of all the user manuals for my lighting. When I am programing my DMX software/controller I don't have a stack of paper to look for the DMX settings.
and since I do my own accounting, (this is not the place to start the "get an accountant" BS), I make my own P&L statements.

You see the Table? That is where they stay. Instead of one person hogging a whole volume I now have 8 people engaged. No complaints so far!

So you force your singers to stand at a table to look through 1/4th of a book? Classy. But then again it is all about you. Too bad they don't sell karaoke books at the dollar store.:-/

Here in Texas we do things with Class. See the table covered with a tablecloth? See the lamp? People love walking up to the table and sitting down in an armchair close by and browsing at their leisure. Because the table is visible, if someone take it to their table, they usually will bring it back. At least everyone knows where to find them. That is much better than walking around trying to hunt them down.

Another thing, with the table I can display my Business Cards and the Karaoke Slips.

I'm thinking that I will eventually do away with the books altogether - and no remote request either. Just might not be necessary.

Once you've got a decent collection, and if broadband internet access grows there's really no limit on what songs we can access and play. Even clients with extensive requests (like a corporate "Idol" contest) never seem to cost me more than $20-$30 in new purchases. I think all I would need is a variety of rack cards with the most popular and common requests from various genres for people to use a memory jogger and conversation starter. Then I just handle requests personally - which is essentially what I'm already doing. I abandoned any kind of sign-up slip a long time ago.

I don't do much karaoke, but I find that people like books. Even without alcohol peoples brains don't seem to be wired to think of songs they want to sing. Seeing an artist or song name usually triggers a yes or no response to the "can I do that?" question. Of course there are people that request songs without looking at the books, or the books trigger a memory. Running without books at all just doesn't seem like it would work well in the situations where I have run it.

I don't agree that people need books - they only need memory triggers and a list of the top 200 songs in each genre will do that.

Rack cards can be full color, and really cheap to print. There's only like 6 genres that really matter for karaoke: Currents, Rock, Pop, Standards, County, R&B and you could fit those on 2 sides of 3 different cards/menus. No more books and every song list is it's own business card too!
