First you have to forgive me, as I am not a computer person so I do not know the proper names for this.

Last year a video guy showed me a rack they use, in this rack the have a computer/ hard drive type thing in a case.
It takes up 4 rack units in the rack. It has a 100 TB memory. I know that the 100 TB is huge.
But what he told me is this is a "quantum server/ Tower/hard drive" thing. Its not the size of this hard drive, its that how fast you can store or play the information on it.
He did tell me that is in $15,000 to $20,000 price rang

I am still amazed that I can put 500 songs on my usb and plug it into my car radio.

Other guys would know more about the specifics but these are network attached storage with very fast connections to the rest of the computers on the network. It's basically a server packed full of high speed hard drives fed to networked devices at well over gigabit speeds.

I seen this video a while ago of a YouTuber upgrading his production team's storage. The sheer cost of it stuck with me.

Here I am still wondering how to fill a 1TB external. The only time I fill it is with Windows Backup which I wind up formatting and starting all over again when it runs out of space because everything important is in the cloud.

There are NAS (network attached storage - I have one), SAN (storage area networks) and others. Speed is important in the computer world where they are moving large files around and dealing with huge databases, but for offline file storage, it really doesn't matter much, other than it takes a little longer in finding a file, but these are generally a bit large for actual gig use.

Ideally, you would back up your libraries, videos, photos, etc onto 2 of these and keep 1 offsite (maybe safety deposit box at bank).

For gig work, generally something in the 2-4Tb size is sufficient ... except for those still on the plastic music coasters .. :)

I would too, but I've been in that world since the early 80s.

We can talk those things .. I built a Hafler preamp and amp from kit back in '84. I love the sound of a Leslie rotating speaker. Tube amps I'm not as impressed with and I have friends with some nice early Macintosh amps.

Yes, I see that more people are starting to get back into the old school stuff, I have seen a few nice DIY kits for Leslie Reverbs on the market now.
As well as some pretty cool tube amps you can build, Some are nice display ones for home that sound great.

I still have a set up of tube amps from the 70's that I have rebuilt, They have I nice "Warm" sound to them.
I do not get to use them as much as I like, as they are a bit to loud for everyday use

Solid State stuff is coming back (everything old is new again?) ... SSD (Solid State Drives) and SSB (Solid State Batteries). Yes, I know it's a different technology. ;)

I do understand the difference between sold state and new technology, and I can see when to use each for the right reason.

I have a drive rack, that has a Crossover, a hum eliminater, a feedback destroyer, 2 X 31 band EQ's, and a time delay. This takes 6 RU in rack case. And this is before I add power or amps.
Now with a "Dynamic Speaker Control" I get all these in one RU.

If I am doing big show or grads, or live bands and am taking the 10 ton van, I can take all my big solid state gear, and my speaker stacks.
But if its just me doing a wedding for 80-100 people I can now take one top rack with mixer and cd players and one 6 Ru bottom rack with Power strip, Dynamic speaker control and two amps ( one Top and one subwoofer amp)
