Yo guys what's up? Well last week I had an issue and this week I am trying to see what I can do to fix it... I have replaced an old mixer with a Behringer DJX700. Witch was pretty nice till I noticed that it didn't have XLR outs on the master out. So I had to do Rolls direct box to fill the connection issue between the compressor and mixer. Not an issue at all, but here is the issue I have found later on that night. I can run the audio and mixer and get sound right. No an issue but I have to max out the gain, faders, and everything to get it loud e-nuff to get the club/bar hopping...

My question is, is there something wrong with the mixer or is there something missing? Cuz I have never pushed a mixer that hard just to get music loud e-nuff to cover the crowd talk and nosie?

The mixer has a output capability of +21dBu, according to the spec sheet. That should be enough signal to accommodate any inputs later in the signal chain.

First, try to use a channel that is not assigned to the crossfader as the "source" for the music you are playing. It is possible that the crossfader module is defective and is not passing the full signal.

Second, what is the "pre fader" signal level from the source? The meters next to each channel will show the pre-fader level. If this is not at 0dB (or higher), the use the trim to get the signal to that point.

After that, I would suspect that the connections in and out of the DI box need to be checked. Measure the voltage of a 1kHz signal at the mixer outs, and that the output of the DI box.

Also, turn off the internal effects, if you have not already done so.

Thank you for the info... I have checked the DI Boxes and believe they are working fine. But I believe the output is really week. So I will look at the frist and second sugguestions.... Thank you keep the info coming tho... More the Marrier

Here's what I'd suggest for starters: Rent, beg or borrow a mixer that you know is working properly and swap it with the one you're having issues with. This should tell you if the issue is with your mixer.

Good Idea... but with use having the old mixer still, I witched it back to the old one. The output is strong but sadly we only have one Channel with it thus us gettin' the DJX700...

I am starting to think I am going to have to get a new mixer...

You described having the same output problem with the Hercules RMX. That's at least two mixers having the same problem, on that system. I have no idea what the rest of the system consists of, or why you need a DI box to connect to it, but it sounds to me like the mixer output isn't the problem.

Well ok here is the run down....

House computer with ex-soundcard
My Laptop w/ Hercules RMX
DJX700 5-channel Mixer
Behinger Sound Gate
Behinger Crossover
31-band EQs two of them
QSC amp for mains
QSC amp for Subs
Two main Cabs with Sineum Horns and Blackwidow 15's in each cab
Two Yamaha sub cabs

I am using the DI boxes cuz the DJX700 only has un-blance RCAs for master out. No XLRs, that's why I am running DI Boxes. Other then that the output dose not matter if I am on Channel 1 or 2. The out put is the same. But I can run the old Mixer and get about double the sound.

A typical DI box will convert an unbalanced line level signal to a balanced MIC level signal. That drops your mixer output substantially. What you need is a balanced line level isolator / transformer like the Whirlwind ISO-2. This will convert you to balanced outputs but keep the signal level high.

OK first you need to start losing some gear which you really don't need!

Start with the Gate! What are you using it for? Mic?

You have an EQ on the board and an EQ (I assume) on your Computer player system and an EQ on the board for the mic channel, so you can drop the 31's out as well. The only thing you will lose is the double smiley faces from the rack.

Now you have the Crossover which I believe is where your problem is (as well as the DI box which you can throw out as well, you don't need it). I am not sure as to what crossover you have but you should be able to to take RCA to 1/4" cables and go to the inputs on the xover and out of the xover with XLRs to the amps.

The Xover has to be gain balanced along with the rest of the system, for your board and the amps. Start there!

Thank you for that info I will look at it tomarrow... I have to be at the club all day so maybe I get clean some things up the system has not been touch for like five year... till I got there...
