Hey folks, I relunctantly upgraded to wmp 11 and now all my drm songs won't load. I get aquire license and then it loads up a window and says import songs into napster... so I do and low and behold it shows only two downloaded songs, what gives! I sys restore back to a week ago and now it is looking for wmp 11, that sucks!

Any help would be appreciated. (I googled but not much luck, maybe wrong keywords)

Bounce is sick and needs to figure this out quickly, as I have new years eve events to handle. Haven't had enough power doh

you mean winamp?
I can get you a site for old programs etc. hang on but if its winamp let me know. I gotta look the site up in my antique PC. Yes its true my office rig is a Pentium 2 486!!!

okay it was suggested to me cause a certain upgrade for yahoo and IE were full of junk causing freezeups to try this site it worked but wasnt sure it even still existed beings I havent ventured or needed it for several yrs. I had it saved in my favorites on the old puter.

JTV sorry, i ment windows media player. I have winamp and it refuses to work there as well, where it used to. I didn't upgrade.

If you mean Windows Media Player 11, you are correct about the DRM problems. I believe you are limited to playing back only files recorded on your machine with that version of WMP. Plain and simple Windows software is becoming less and less user friendly with each upgrade. You think it's fun now... just wait for Vista.

Uncle Bill will be watching your computer every time you log on to the internet and will dictate what kind of software you can install due to "security concerns" by way of Upgrades. When you are due for a WIndows Update, you may not be able to update until the "security threat" is removed.

Open Source software is the answer!!! Part of the reason I haven't gone digital is due to all the proprietary crap attached to Windows apps controlling what you can or cannot do. I will get behind the first really viable Open Source Linux based DJ Software.

Update, I gave them a call, go figure they are off, have to wait till monday to call... SHOOT! I also deactivated this system from the list, hoping i could reactivate it back to redo the DRM, but go figure napster!

When napster works it's really great and powerful, when it doesn't, it really is a pain!

I know this thread wasn't a DRM debate and I really don't want to derail you but I have to say this:

That's the trouble with DRM it treats customers like their thieves preemptively. Weather or not you actually paid for the protected files when a glitch like this happens you're hung out to try until someone manually corrects the problem. The big trouble is often times these online sites have little or no support.

Would you shop at store that locks you in on entry and doesn't let you leave until they search your pockets to make sure you didn't steal anything? You think it's bad now, just wait until Vista hits the masses.

"DRM manages rights like jail manages freedom"

Dan I had not seen this actual report before, but I have seen a lot of the same stuff scattered on various tech sites. Vista has to be the biggest software/hardware C.F. in history. Give me Linux, Audacity,Ogg Vorbis and XMMS an I'm happy.

In a world without wall and fences, who needs windows and gates.

Thats why I am STAYING with XP and MP3's no way will I use a wma or wmv file while all this crap can happen

why should I use something that can be buggy in the first place

no thanks winxp and mp3's are the way to stay

Thanks Doug I like the humour

Just an update for you folks... I finally got a hold of Napster tech support, the lady was very nice and I didn't give her a hard time, coming back to work from the NY holidays. We removed the database file, reimported and bing came back, she prob did some stuff on her end though, and I got my PC reactivated ... WOOT!

Travis,
I think I had the same probelm that you experiencing. I called the napster tech support and I spent an hour on the phone with the guy...He ended up telling me to re-installing napster and re-installing windows media player...I ended up hanging up lol

I quit napster and switched to itunes, $1 a song and NO MONTHLEY fee!

I have not downloaded recently (several years) from Napster but I've always used "Musicmatch" jukebox as my default player and I have never had any problems with playing downloaded music.

Brian for crying out loud though, it's only $15 a month! And ALL the music I want. Also for tech support i would have tried again, and described your problem in greater detail, their tech support is only as good as the person talking to them giving information. I am tech savy so I was able to get in, get fixed, and get out with no issues... But I imagine anybody with my issue could have been fixed up easily, they asked simple simple questions to me, like what is the message that pops up... Etc. Sorry you had a bad experience with them, however I will never use iTunes, 128 just does not cut it for me... I don't care if people say "BUT IT'S AAC!".

Anyways folks, I am very satisfied with napster.
