That's the one I want too Randy :)

Right now, I just can't justify the expense though, as I just take pics for goofs mostly -- and I didn't get a damn stimulus check :sqerr:

Look forward to seeing how the pics come out... :)

When or if we get ours it is already spent I wrecked the Escalade last week, hit a deer! Took out the grill and left headlight assembly!

As a matter of a fact the bitch got up and ran off! I had already pulled the 44 out from under the seat to dispatch the animal and if there hadn't been houses around I would have killed it just on general principal.

Careful Steve -- St. Peter may actually be a deer... :sqlaugh:

I actually almost went crazy and ordered the 40D, but I couldn't justify that expense and still maintain sleeping in the house. :sqwink:

Anyone familiar with this camera ......... I wanted to take pictures tonight at a dance with the flash on, but even when I had the flash turned on, it didn't want to take the darn photo. I had it on night setting too. It acted like it was telling me it didn't need the flash. I didn't care. I wanted to use flash.

One thing we decided to purchase with our stimulus money was a new camera. After doing alot of research, we decided on the Canon S5.

Amazon.com: Canon PowerShot Pro Series S5 IS 8.0MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom: Camera & Photo

We also added the telephoto lense with the lense adaptor and hood.

This should be a good camera for our family and we look forward to using it soon.

Did you check your manual???

If your using the camera on auto you can not override the presets..

Try putting it on P (program).. it will still do the automatic settings for shutter and aperture but you should be able to change the flash setting..

I don't think we currently have an S5 at the store but I will check today.. if we don't, I've downloaded a manual and will check it out later.. but try the Program mode and see if that works.

Here is a little something for target practice:

Shirl,

I've successfully gotten the camera to take pics in low light and I'm capturing the photos I want, but the standard flash is so harsh. I've heard of some using a hot flash, pointing it up. I've also looked for some online, but I'm not sure what a good choice would be. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, but I'd like to improve the quality of the low-light photos. Could you recommend something that would help that out? I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestion.

Test something first... take a white plastic drinking glass... the kind you can use at picnics... hold it in front of you pop up to diffuse the light... see how that works.. if it gets you closer to what you want, they make diffusers that attach to the hot shoe...

If you need more light than the pop up gives... then go for your external flash.. some of the main differences in those will be area coverage... most of them will come with a diffuser and you can also tilt to bounce the flash which helps too...

Does that help...?

Doc... Are you around any where.... ??

Check your manual to see what flashes are recommended... then compare the differences of those 2 or 3 flashes... once you have an idea which one you want... shop around... I checked on a part for a canon camcorder once... I couldn't order the part thorough the store... checked direct with canon web site... $124 to replace the power supply... same part # at Amazon... multiple places... under $25 ... go figure...

Doc is better informed on what is new so let's see if he chimes in...
