My partner is giving me a headache!

First of all, I really don't do much Weddings. With that being said, I make more money per Corporate Gig, Country Club, Golfs Club and Production Gig than my colleagues who do Weddings. The creative factor where I can play whatever I want without having to deal with a Must Play, Do Not Play List is paramount to me. I like taking requests but I don't want someone else doing my programming.

I agree the lack of client play lists is less of a headache (I said that in an earlier post)
But you mean you get more for a Country Club party, than a 5-hour wedding with all the bells and whistles??
(even after your agency takes commission??)

It pays off to be different. I look different, I sound different and it does pay off to be different. I am not competing with the masses. I leave the Client very satisfied.

I I have all genres of music. Songs are selected fro the Library for any type of events including Weddings. So I will always have the right music with me. There is no such thing as "Sole Wedding Music". Anything can be played at a Wedding depending on who is there. Yes, I ask the client what style of music they and their guests may like but I don't hand over control to them. It is my job to put it all together and make everyone happy.
They should trust that you know what you're doing or why would you take the gig? With that being said i saw on here some DJ's were surprised when you said you make more money doing certain events then some others you know doing weddings. Why should that be a big shock? The assumption is that you should be able to make more for a wedding then other events.

That really would depend on how much they charge to do weddings vs what you charge to do a corporate event. Then it also depends on how good they are at selling their services to a potential client and what they have to offer. You may have more to offer then they do which in turn can have you make more money because of upsales.

I remember seeing a craigslist ad where a person is looking for a DJ to do an event on Oct. 26 for $150.00 and if they like that DJ that just might win you a job doing a wedding for $200.00. Now is that rediculous!? The real sad part is if they find a DJ that hard up for work. I might just respond to try to talk some sense into them and not be stupid enough to book a DJ willing to do a wedding for $200.00. All i can say is that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Before i get blasted i would quote them a package price of a DJ with equipment $895.00 and then try to get them to see the difference.

You should jump at that Mix that would be $350 you can give your buddy to throw a party ;)

He's not my buddy but my partner and i don't like just giving money away. I did it once but i can't see myself doing it again. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. I just want to see how this party on Friday turns out. I've got my fingers crossed. All i know is my retirement party was a big success. The reason being is that they know me where i had the party and i know some people would show up automatically because of the bar itself. So anything i added to it was a plus. It was a packed house and they loved me! Tell you more about what my plans are later for part of the business plan.
