My new fancy shmancy website

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
I'm new to this so unfortunately I don't have a bunch of photos and video from weddings that I can use. I'm starting completely from scratch. I'll be making some videos of myself soon that will go on one of the pages so potential customers will be able to see and hear me make some brief announcements that I will stage for the website. I'll also put some video of myself singing.

If they take a few minutes to look around the website they'll know what I look like and sound like and they'll know my pricing. I'll only get calls from people who already know a bit about me and my pricing.

As I go along I'll have a variety of things that I'll be able to add to the website like a photo gallery, testimonials and links to photographers, caterers, venues, limo companies etc.

Right now all I can do is make something that's simple and clean. It will be a numbers game and a percentage of the people will hopefully call or email me based on the website. That's why it's important to get LOTS of people to come and take a look. Hopefully multiple domain names and a few other things will help with that.

Those all sound like great ideas, and will make the site top notch as you develop them!

Because it's relevant here, I'm going to say it even though I know others have different opinions (it could get out of hand here and I would encourage a new thread on it if we are going to discuss it at length...), but I agree when it comes to pricing on the site. Ive had mine up since day 1, and people really take to it.

They like the fact that you're open about it, and I think they appreciate the fact that you are letting them make a preliminary decision up-front without having to contact you as to whether or not they will even consider your services. It's a great psychological advantage for you in many ways, and peeps appreciate not being baited for a sales pitch just to get a quote! That's the feedback I get anyway.

Just as important as the psychological advantage it gives you is the fact that neither the customer nor yourself have to waste even a second of time talking (let ALONE in-person) if they would have excluded you based on price right up front:)
 
unless the site is opening slow my only concern is that your main page has the darker blue and the others dont.Other than that great start.
 
The main page has a darker background and white text. The Other pages have a lighter background and black text. If I add additional pages they'll have the light blue background and black text too. For photo pages, when I add them, I may go to a plain white background and possibly the same thing for video.

I went and looked at several DJ websites from my local area and most look amateurish and terrible IMO. A few are very well done and professional looking.
 
but it looks much better if you keep uniformity throughout changing text, buttons, pictures etc. but keeping the same theme one page to the next. My humble opinion.
 
To me ----the blue really hits you .....I's look for a lighter, perhaps more pastel shade so it's not so in your face.

I would change the font.....it's cold, blocky and spaces too far apart, making it somewhat labourious to read. Pick a smaller, bolder more elegant font (i.e. Verdana) ....make it more "bride-appealing".

You need a page to tell the bride who you are and why they should hire you...You're selling your vocal abilities...give a resume so that prospects will know you're a "real" vocalist...

To me, the moving clouds grab my attention while I am trying to look at other things. Clouds are fine. Moving clouds not so much.

I know you are new to this but you need more info. At least I think so. I was looking for more but it was it. Sometimes less is more but if I were looking to hire you, you wouldn't have enough info. Add an about us or me page. Put down your experience. If you have testimonials from other clients, add that to a page or at least on a page somewhere. Don't over crowd the pages but add a little more.

Do you have to have the "Wix" things on there? It takes away from the site. Makes it look like a free site. I don't pay a ton for mine but I don't have the website program on it anywhere but the very bottom. The little side thingy disrupts the feel.

Hope that helps. I know when i got my first site. I got hammered but it helped out a lot.
 
I'm looking for another web company like wix that I can try out to make a web page - any suggestions?

I'd like to see what other backgrounds, frames, non animated clouds etc. are available and what kind of site building software they use.

I used what wix had available as far as the elements I mentioned above and I came up with what I created. The company name and everything else aren't in stone yet.

As far as more about me, I don't have much until I have several weddings under my belt. I'll be adding some video of me making some staged announcements, me singing, a sample light show etc.

For right now it's all I have so far. A couple of days ago I didn't have anything.

Soon I'm going to make a website for my singing show and another one for Karaoke hosting. Then I'll get 3 or 4 domains for each web site and have them point or redirect to the main page for each different part of the business depending on the search.

As far as getting rid of the wix stuff that appears on the page, if you host with them for $10 a month you can remove it.
 
I took a look at the demo and after using wix for a couple of days I'm comfortable with it and I think I'm going to just continue using it.

I'm going to have at least two other web sites possibly three more, so I'll need hosting for them. If I decide to use wedj then I'll host one website with them as part of the silver or gold listing.
 
Well, for anyone that is interested. I completely or nearly totally changed the website. Here it is

I've tried a jillion different things. It may not be the best, but I've spent days and days on this and it's time to attend to other things that I need to get done to move the business forward.
 
Rob, eventually it will be live and several domains will point to it OR I'll move it to another domain if it can be moved. I have a bunch of other things I need to do before I feel I'm ready to talk to any prospective brides.

I just ordered a Flip video camera so I can put some video of me on the website making announcements and singing a couple of songs. I also need to have some song lists ready for suggestions for grand entrance, first dance, cutting the cake etc. I know I'm probably reinventing the wheel, but I need to have the same materials that other DJs have when they meet with a prospective bride and groom.

If I need to re-create the website or a similar website at another hosting company using another domain name, at least I will have some experience and should go a lot faster.
 
That's cool...

I just know that sites like that don't do well in searches it's similar to having a Yahoo Geocities page vs a website hosted by yahoo....

Overall it looks good but needs continuity between each page... if nothing else atleast the navigation buttons should be located in the same place on each page and in the same order.... otherwise it creates difficulty for your viewers and possible confusion while navigating your site...

That's not necessaraly true Rob I had a Netfirms page go number 1 on the big 3 search engines under several different searches. If you can change the code you can do neat things with it...

Although I do agree your own URL would be better
 
Once I'm ready to go live with the website and I've completed my preparations so that I have in place everything I need and I'm personally ready to go after some weddings, I will certainly have my own URL and it won't say wix, it won't be a subdomain of a free hosting company, it won't say "you can have a free web site too" etc.

I'm going to buy at least a half dozen URLs, I've said that already a few times. Regardless of what the URL is, the domains I'm planning to get will come up when certain searches are made. All the domains will probably point to a main page and then from that main page they will be able to go to the wedding page, the Karaoke Hosting page, my singing show page etc. or there will be individual pages linked to each other.

The domain it's under right now is just for me to get started and build the website and learn about websites and SEO. Heck, I just started messing around with this stuff a little over a week ago. I didn't know anything, nothing, nada, zilch.
 
Wiz...Didn't see the first draft, but I do think you are doing a pretty good job with your efforts. Looks a hell of a lot better than our site.

One suggestion....How about a pic of the DJ on the site?
 
Yeah Kirby, that pic on the "About Us" page is a placeholder for when I have a decent picture of my self. First I'm gonna try getting a couple of pictures with a regular point and shoot digital camera. If that looks like crap I'll probably go to glamor shots or Sears and have some decent shots made. Then the unused "Video" buttons on each page will go to a page with videos of me doing some announcements like a grand entrance etc. and me singing a few songs. I'm also planning a special video where I talk directly to the bride and groom for a few minutes with a little sales pitch, something I just thought of which I haven't seen on any DJ websites yet. Actually I just thought of a local DJ Mark Foley that has a video on a wedding mall website where he talks to the bride and groom.
