Now what do I do?! LOL

I will wait untill Monday to play with it.... don't wanna mess up my computer before da gig tomorrow.............................

Chuck,

It's easy. Just download the drivers, plug it in and your all set. Within your softwear just select Gigaport as your sound card. I've been using one for over two years now. It's a nice card. Good luck and have fun with it.:sqwink:

Send it back, and get something decent for less :sqlaugh:

Lou and Luke are correct, no need for drivers, unless you want the ASIO and multi-channel output. If you just plug it in, and use the generic Window's USB driver, you will get a single stereo output.

And yes, their ASIO drivers can be a bit flaky -- and their support is basically non-existent.

I'm partial to the Behringer UCA-202's.

They sound about the same as a Gigaport (if not better, IMHO), have RCA ins and outs, a 3 foot USB cable -- and you can buy two, for half the price of a Gigaport.

I'm also not a fan of using a multi-channel card for DJ use -- if it breaks, yer up the creek. With dual cards, if one goes on the fritz, you just switch both decks to the one still working :)

Get a pair, velcro inside your rack and attach to a cheapie USB hub -- then you only have one cable to plug into the computer at setup time -- simple, yet very effective, with built-in backup.

Don't use a hub for the GigaPort. I had issues here and there when using a hub (powered or not didn't matter). How come? I don't know, just did. Absolutely zero problems when connected to the computer's port (specifically laptops).

You'll have more problems trying to use two identical sound devices at the same time.

I have the Gigaport AG and I use the drivers. It was really tricky to get them installed on XPSP1. On a new laptop with XPSP2, I used the installation program and everything just worked.

I have not attempted to use a hub. BUT, I can tell you that the drivers only work for the Gigaport when it is plugged into one of the four USB ports on the laptop. To get it to work on a second port, I had to install the drivers again. At this point, I just always use the same port for the sound card. There is defiantly some weirdness going on.

That said, I have used the Gigaport AG on four different computers in the last four years without a hickup.

No issues at all, with two identical USB sound devices -- as long as you don't use their drivers (Behringers do not come with drivers).

They simply show up as USB Audio Codec, and USB Audio Codec (2). Window's does all the virtualization of memory and IRQs, and I've run many without a hiccup. :)

Then again, I sacrifice to the computer gods, every now and then :sqlaugh:

Best of luck brah. I used the Gigaport and had no issues whatsoever. It works great. I have XP with SP2 installed. Didn't need any additional drivers with PCDJ FX.

I have since gone on to using the Deno DN HD2500 Controller, which has its own built in sound card and hard drive. No more computer or soundcard being used, but I carry them with me as a back-up system.

If you have any problems feel free to give me a call (5 hours ahead of you on the time)

I agree with rick. My Numark Mixer has 2 cards; I've used 2 of the Behringers and 2 TB Micros....never any issues...

Well, Chuck should be waking up soon, it's 5:48 AM in Hawaii right now.
I wonder how he made out last night with the Gigaport?

May I ask, why do you need two cards?

Same reason you need cables from each turntable or CD deck.

One deck on the software, goes to one channel on the mixer, the other deck, goes to another channel.

You do all your cueing off the mixer at that point, and not the software. Less latency, and more like folks are used to mixing :)

Rick, have actually gotten very used to using 1 sound card out of the computer and Rockit. It seems to be working very well for me!!

Cool

Pretty much personal preference, I think. When I talk to customers, it tends to be divided along the lines of how they started DJ'ing...

For example, the folks that are used to turntables or two CD decks, tend to be more prone to want to use two cards, and split the decks up going to the mixer.

The folks that start on computers, seem more apt to use a single card, and do the mixing on the software.

I'm far more handy with a mouse now, then I am with a mixer -- so I'd probably tend to use a single card at this point.

I use two channels, but one for the mains and one for the monitor. I use a usb sound card (Audio Beach) for the mains and just use the headphone out for the monitor (which I lucked out because the headphone out sounds just as good as the Audio Beach and I did use it until I got the Audio Beach). Works well for me.

I guess what I don't understand is, I've only used the one sound card, Gigaport. I have up to 4 stereo outputs out to my mixer. I do all the mixing and cueing right from my mixer. Are you saying these other cards only allow you to send out 1 stereo output to the mixer?

That's correct.

I call it the KISS approach -- it never fails :)
