Wanted to give you a glimpse of my basement, that I built

I’m not a professional; I would call myself a semi-competent DIY’r. I’m A DJ, Radio Presenter, Musician and IT professional. I have challenges in my daily life; from 2 major illnesses’ and at times severe back pain (issue with a deteriorated disc), my main challenge is “Er’indoors,” the Bain of my life, the slower and stopper of projects.

That’s the disclaimer over, happy to hear thoughts, “constructive” criticism, this is not really a how to: it’s more a “how I did it”

Background
Moved here to Canada in 2010, house was OH's and bough new in 2006, unfinished basement, semi-finished and butchered by a bunch of cowboy contractors and then covid hit, so now I’m only just starting on this, the original finished basement was about 5 years ago in 2018, 2 years ago after that I had a heart attack, so now only starting on it

been a while since I got back on this,

So see the below pics, I'm pretty much near the finish line, still lots to do, have an eq I have to fit, some boards to hide stuff, another DJ light system, fog, strobe, some decorations etc, but minor stuff, the heavy lifting has been done. Installed my 1,2k rig, cut the baseboard to make a hidey hole

Let me ask. What Numark dual CD player do you have? My first dual CD player and only one was a Numark CDN 88.

HI it is in fact a NUmark CDN-88, I fixed the problem with the sticking CD's, I figured out there is a magnet which when the deck is empty doesnt release, to fix it, you just put any blank or used CD in and then power it down, when you power it up, no problems with the decks jamming, the onyl tru fix is to replace each individual CD drive

I loved that unit except for one thing. I didn't like that the loop feature wasn't preset. You had to set it yourself. Sometimes I wouldn't get it right. I had another one a few years back. I got rid of it because I was now using a controller.

I've not DJ'd on my rig for years so 'm going to have to relearn how to beat mix and loop and all the other things on the numark, it had some good features no doubt

I still have my CDN-88 but I don't know if it works as I haven't tried to turn it on in many years. I've only kept it because the CD player in my home stereo is problematic. I think the problem may just be dust on the laser assembly but I haven't bothered opening it up yet. I rarely use it. In fact, I use my cassette player more as I found some old recordings of my grandfather from the early 70s as he was dying.

OK so on with the show, I extended the nook for my Peavey q215FX Graphic EQ, I need to get some patch cables and some corner moulding to finish of the edges, just ordered a pair of 3ft TS 1/4 jacks, unbalancedP1010521.JPG

Ok guy's so some more shots, this is a bit "rough" but its going to be dark :) so
  • I framed the cubby I didnt wanna drag out the miter saw so made do, it's not a 100% but will do
  • So the table has a glass top so I can't screw on the top, so I'm starting to make a frame

The idea is to hide the wire and then put up some MDF as a kinda screen, with lighting and a place to put record sleeves
(when I get it together you'll kinda see what I mean) The whole wood thing will be covered in the same black felt that the table is
I'm hoping to hide as much wiring as is possible without loosing the ability to troubleshoot cabling.P1010533.JPG
