Maybe I should do that too... being that this is something ive been doing professionally (in radio and mobile) for 20 years?
Adam- scheme should not have been the word but lets go attack this in the way papa usually does
(customer in this scenario met adam at another customers event for Party Revolution NOT the budget company)
Adam: Oh Ma'am im sorry i totally understand youre on a tight budget, well before i let you go let me give you another number heres a great company that does just as good a job as me for a whole lot less..
Customer: OK (thinking what the hell you charging so much for then if this guy is just as good)
Customer calls the other company.
Adam answers the phone and disguises his voice?
Adam has a buddy get back to the lady and then the job gets booked.
Adam forgets about this lady because his calendar is so busy (which we all hope for you) and then event night comes and adam forgets he met this lady in person and goes and does the party.
now if i went to a used car lot and wanted a 2001 BMW Z3 and a salesman told me it'd be $22000.00 and then i come back later and the same sales guy tells me oh i'll let it go for $10,000 sure its "a great deal" but wouldnt you be wondering why the same car a few minutes ago was $12000 more
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When I converted to multi op the first year I would quote anywhere and everywhere on my cell phone but as the events started rolling in it got harder and harder to do i'd forget what i told one person and then i'd get a cal by another person for the exact same event leaving my pricing vulnerable...
this is all just feedback from people that do this full time as multi ops to "feed their families" and do more than just very well
Theres no disguising voices....I own that company as well....he manages it! I will have nothing to do with that service. The ball is in his court. I however hear what you are saying!
I am a salesman at a furniture store as well....and how come it seems they price shop too! They say...well this bed is $3000 and this other one is $1500....thats in my price range. I make more comission off the $3000 bed...but I sell to fit my customers budget.
I dont care if sell them a $3000 bed or a $1500 bed, I made money either way. Also the customer got a bed in their budget, and they are happy. So......
Just for argument sake.....respond on this...please....

I sell my $1200 wedding like theres no tomorrow.....well I already know this was out of a wedding couples budget. I can sell a turd, if I had to. So anyways....I explain to them all the benefits, and let them get what they deserve.....does this not put a bigger target on my head and services?? I can handle the pressure, but it seems this couple might find any little reason to complain about my service, and try to get some kind of refund. Why would anyone want to go that route??
I havent had a complaint on my services yet, and I make sure I deliver way beyond what a Dj is susposed to do. And this is not a problem.....however not every client feels this way. I've spent $2000 to do a $425 event. I felt so bad for the couple that booked a DJ and he decided to go to Mexico on their weekend. They called me a week and a half before their event, and asked my opinion on what they should do. I felt so horrible for them. I asked them.."What will you do if no one performs your event?" And they said....well we will have a friend play a cd player! ISHY ISHY ISHY! You only get one wedding, and I really really wanted to help them out, and we did! Went extremely well, and recieved major recognition from their family and friends. Thats how I am.....and even if I didnt make a million bucks, there was no way they could afford to pay me $750 even on short notice.
But yea.....in our area, this will work. I am not looking to take any calls, or Dj any of the events he books. This is all his! If he becomes my arch enemy..he does! I still put money in my pocket. If he becomes so awesome, it slows down my business, I will have no problem staying at home and getting paid. If he is truly better than me, that is just fine. If he rocks out...we will raise his prices, and increase my margins. I see nothing wrong with this.
But my service will get all the high end events, and he will play clean up hitter. I still maximize my profits, because then I dont "undercharge" for my service. From what I see...both services will make the same income...however....he will do more events. Big deal! Money in my pocket!
