Moving I Tunes tracks

My daughter's I Tunes tracks have filled up my C drive and I'd
like to move them to my much larger F internal drive.

Once I do that, what change will she have to make within the I Tunes software so that it also recognizes the new location of all the tracks?

Sorry it's not DJ related, but I know squat about I Tunes...I'm a Zune man.

In the preferences there is a line to direct iTunes to the folder where the library is. iTunes can be finicky when transferring the library I have found. If you have trouble after moving the files then you can always clean out the iTunes library making sure to click "Keep original files" when prompted and then re import all your files.

ok before anyone realizes on this if they are WMA's and you want to move or use them on another system make sure they are not DRM protected or you will have many hassles in using them

the thing that 99.99% forget that is why microcrap stops users from moving transfering etc wma files when they are DRM protected

if they are just plain MP3's then do what you like with them

Hmmm...Dennis, now I'm a little confused.

Many of her tracks were bought from I Tunes, but most were ripped from CD's or copy and pasted from my mp3's ripped with Red 5.2.

I'm not putting them on a new machine, just a different larger drive in the same machine.

Will the tracks gleaned from I Tunes (with DRM I assume) give me problems if I'm just moving them to a different drive?

The other tracks should not be a problem....I'm guessing.
 
it dont matter if she bought them - its bought for that ONE computer only as they are copy protected if they are WMA files

if they are mp3 it wont matter move all you like
if you convert them from wma to mp3 as told above by Rick
then you should be ok also

but be very warned if you have copyprotected wma files you wont be able to move them from one machine to another.....
 
dont say you wasnt warned if the process wont allow you then thats why i never ever download wma files

its all i will say on this as it can make people get hot under the collar....
 
Here is what I did.

1. On the itunes screen click on edit, preferences. When the box comes up click on Advanced. Then you will see the current drive listed that itunes is using to read the library.

2. Click on change and then a box with all of the components will open up and then you select the bigger drive (f). Click on ok and then the system will read the music from drive f from now on. When you buy, or add tracks from cd's this will become your new storage point for the tracks.

3. When I moved all of my tracks I copied them on to an external from my c drive. Then I dragged them over into itunes box and they were stored. See if you can drag the files from the c drive to your bigger drive, I don't know if it will work but it won't hurt. My DRM protected files work on both of my machines.

and thats why I dont use itunes - its crap anyway too many processes just to allow you to copy/move your own files

nope i'll stick with something simple...
