I was looking through the albums and one of my favorites from years ago is the 1st album by Klaatu from Canada. Weird, quirky space themed music/songs. I eventually bought the next 2 and then the band started falling apart (I think there were 2 later albums and some compilations.

Any who .. here's my most eclectic albums:

Interesting note (I remember this)

The band is also remembered internationally for rumours that they were actually The Beatles recording under a pseudonym. Klaatu themselves did not start these rumours and always flatly denied them, and indeed no Beatle was ever involved in the writing, recording or production of any Klaatu material.

They did chart a song:

I don't know how eclectic they are, but I have some Tom Waits CDs. I first heard him back in '76 I think, back when I was in college. Off campus they had some very large houses that I image at one time were like mansions, but they were pretty decrepid and run down. They were subdivided into many one room accommodations and everyone used a common kitchen and they were supposed to pitch in and clean and cook etc. I think they were called co-ops, I don't remember exactly.

These places attracted the hippie types and other non conformist types of people. They were cool places with interesting people and they had lots of parties. I was at one of these houses after class one day doing bong hits in the living room/common area of the house and Tom Waits was playing. When I first heard the music I thought it was a joke. His voice was so gravely and rough and it was so unusual compared to most music I had heard, it seemed strange to me at first. The more I listened, the more I liked it. I'm a huge fan of Tom Waits' music and I'm sure he has a small cult following even today. I would venture to say that maybe 1 tenth of 1% of the people alive today in this country have ever heard one of his songs. Does that make it eclectic?

eclectic means a wide variety of styles -- doesn't mean it's weird. For example, I mentioned Physical Graffiti, which has many different styles, and influences on it. In the other example Some Girls, by the Stones, you have country, disco and rock, all on the same album.
