So an events success is all or nothing for you, if you don’t have a packed dance floor and interactive crowd it’s a complete failure,

I’ll keep that in mind next time you post a gig.
No sir. I was up there in Montclair again on Monday playing for the seniors and the music is mostly Classic Soul. So it's mainly the seniors just enjoy the music I play when I'm up there. There's VERY little dancing and I understand why. I'm 66 and most of those people are older than me.

I will be back up there on Monday June 2nd. That's my birthday celebration. My GF said she would come up there with me and I plan on having a Blast. I will get a little gratuity and I will have a tip cup out because it's my birthday.

I don't know any DJ that doesn't enjoy a packed dance floor because of the job they're doing. Of course that doesn't happen all the times. When it doesn't you just need to know how to keep your composure and do your best. That's where it's about how much professionalism do you have.

I did a repass up there since time ago and it turned out very nice. No crazy wild dancing. I did it with a lady who was great friends with the guy that died. He was a long time member with the seniors and a really great guy.

I'm pretty sure she has no idea there might be an issue so yeah, if I end up doing it that will be a hurdle to get over. I'm just trying to be helpful. I'm getting paid by my friend so at least I don't think I'll get stiffed and if there's any fall-out, it'll be on him. I'm going to prepare then show up and do the best job I possibly can.

Does the client know that they are no longer getting a 2 person show? Or was it not part of the contract?

I have no idea. I had nothing to do with the contract and was not may privvy to it. I was sub-contracted to supply a sound system and photobooth. The situation was that the contracted DJ was having health issues and was looking for a way to provide a DJ, had he not been able to attend. As it was, he made it and the client never knew there was a potential problem. The party went off like a well-oiled machine. BTW, I'm fairly certain the client never knew I was to be involved.

He said there's no way I would have pulled off the event he did. That to me says Rick wouldn't have done a good job. For me either you would nail an event or not. Glad to hear that the event went well and you got to see your old friend.

I wouldn't have pulled off to the level my friend did (with the games). I still would've pulled off a good (enough) event. It's not all or nothing.

He's referring to the other guy's Emcee talent. (A must for this kind of event.) Some of these parties have 80+ kids, along with over twice as many adults in a formal setting. It takes a lot of talent to manage the kids, then the adults, and then both at the same time. It's not unusual to have a crew of 7 people on a gig like this: DJ, MC, and 5 dancers.

There is no 'down time' at these gigs, it's at least 4 straight hours of entertaining one or both groups.
