While a Martin PR-1 is a good tool for gobos a projector will do just as good of a job

Here is a PR-1 next to a projected image.... I think the projector looks better.

This is one of the reasons I wanted the projector. This way I spend more but my options are wide open. And all money made from this will be in my pocket.

$99 for a custom gobo sure cuts into profits. :sqfrown:

I'd like to offer that in the future, but not if the cost is so high. Unless you're doing some pretty high priced, high end weddings, I don't see people in this market paying $200 for that, but I'm not really involved in the local wedding market yet. The regular Joe weddings here are running maybe $400-$600 and they don't even want to spend extra for a light show let alone a gobo. I'd certainly do it if I can get the cost way down, it's a nice, classy touch.

In my area they go for about 200 to 250 even if the service offers it. I will probably go about 125 dollars so that number one I get the business and number two it will all be profit. If I find that I'm doing video presentations and gobos at the same time I will buy a very cheap projector for that also.

As you know Jon, I do have a projector and could have chosen to project custom gobos with it. To me, however, being able to have it rotate and also to adjust the speed of rotation is an absolute must.

Here is a photo I took at Swanny at the end of the night with ALL the house-lights cranked as you can see...

You could create a rotating gobo with your projector as well...

The only problem I have with the PR-1 is the wait time on the gobo's...As well there is a better return of your investment on the projector given what you can use it for and the cost in making the gobo (o)

Yeah, I figured you could do it somehow but I haven't seen it done. I guess you would make a movie or something. Then I guess you would have to have a DVD player or computer hooked up to it... Sounds like a lot of work to me. :sqfrown:

As a HUGE plus, the PR1 has a wired remote so I simply stop it where it's perfect for the B&G to get some photos done then start it turning again once they're done. I also keep a slower rotation earlier on and speed it up after the formal dances are out of the way.

Turn-around time near me for a custom-gobo is super fast! The local production company gets their Rosco order in once a week. As long as I have my order in to them 2 days before, by email, I get it in 2 to 5 days! You can give them more time if you'd like... Lol Email Rosco & Apollo to get a list of retailers in your area, then contact them for a time-frame.

I've done the rotating thing with my PJ, but I can't divulge what the method/tools I used. :sqwink:

Which one is which ?:sqconfused:

Here's a hint .....

Steve, you are right it does require another computer, but isn't that what back up laptops or even those cheap little netbooks are for.

I don't hate the PR-1 as it definately has a purpose for certain spaces, but with a projector, you can do so much more.

I love that gobo!
Steven is that a custom job or off the shelve?

You definitely do a nice job with the projector, no question about it. Too much work for me though, I'm lazy like Jon Tuck, lol. I prefer to just set my light up on a stand and have it work with minimal fuss. I spend enough time on the computer... :sqwink:

For this event, where did you mount the PR1. I have one, but image comes out too large. Having problems having to place close to area to be displayed. Any suggestions?
