Thanks, now quite changing the subject. Does everything always have to be about you?:sqerr::sqeek::sqwink:

What are you going to use for lights behind the facade?

I will either use my color strips or my Rain 56 par cans, probably the color strips and maybe a Revo or something like that as well.

I agree with Fred. I don't like to feel that I'm hiding from the people. I like to be in contact with the guests not in a "cage'.

adj4u2c nice set up. How long did it take you to build it? How heavy is it? Hard to move?

If you're willing to share the plans, I would appreciate if you could "pm" them to me.

Thanks

Wow. This thread simply asked about a DJ booth for a DJ to consider. Boy has it gone awry. Lighted facades--good or bad--digital dj's faster than Cd's--skirts, cloths wires center of attentiion WOW.

All DJs are not created equal. Thank God! Now that we've established that, it's our individual uniqueness that clients usually observe and use to consider utilizing our services. Fulfilling their expectations is another ingredient in their formula for selcting. And finaly, PRICE is a key ingredient.

In the New York - New Jersey - Pennsylvania market, brides right now are looking for WOW. They are looking for PERSONALITY. They are looking for PRICE.

WOW
The lighted facade is only one component of the WOW.
A spotlight on the Bride & Groom as they enter is yet another.
Intelligent Lighting on the dance floor is another component of WOW.

EXPECTATION
When you meet the client, you must ascertain their expectations, and how you can fulfill them.
Some clients want an EMCEE who will go out on the floor and direct the attention to the couple.
Some want an EMCEE who is hidden behind the curtain, so to speak.
(as an aside, have you noticed the trend on television to show the EMCEE/ANNOUNCER on the screen lately?)
Some want glitter, glamour, lights etc at their reception.
Some want plain Jane elegance.

PRICE
In today's economy, everyone is concerned about price.
It's important to consider the client's budget, but to also point out to them the benefits of add-ons such as lighting, facades, give-aways, dancers and such.

In the end, its the client who needs to be satisfied, and the guests who need to be WOWED into experiencing an event they will cherish and remember.

I just today, received a letter from the new Mrs. Angel K, as she returned home from her honeymoon. Letters such as this make this job so much more worthwhile (beside making a lot of money).

"I found steve at a local sweet 16 expo where myself and one of my bridesmaids went to get unique ideas for my wedding. after previewing what he can do I just knew he was the Best DJ for my wedding. I still remember saying "Thats my guy! I need to hire him for the wedding!"
That choice, made my wedding night fantastic! Two weeks later and people are still saying 'This was the best wedding I ever attended'
Thank you Steve, for making my wedding night memorable (and the most fun many of us had in years) for my 135 guests, myself and my husband.

I............................Back to the subject, I quoted my new lighted facade to a bride today. We will see what she thinks. I hope Steve doesn't want to hunt me down as I am using his pictures to show what it can look like. Yes, she will know that the pics are not ours.

Jamie

Bride wanted to keep the pics as she absolutely loved the look. Thanks Steve.

I'm sure his residual will be thanks enough.:sqwink:

Steve, what thread have you ever read that doesn't span new thoughts and discussions. It's the nature of conversation. It's how we are all wired. One's thoughts and ideas spin new discussion in others. Look how I just took your comments and wandered off all by myself talking about something nobody gives 2 sheets about.:sqerr: I wish the voices would stop!!!!:sqeek:

Right now I use the Facade by DJ skirts. I love it, simple to use, easy to set up and I get a lot of compliments.

The best thing, I have room for the photographers to store their crap behind it so they don't just set it down somewhere near my stuff - making it look like it is my mess. I do not like a mess near my equipment.

Here's a video from a Bar Mitzvah in Baltimore MD that brought in a N.Y. entertainment company. Notice the lighted facade and great light show.

Now that's perfect for that event! Makes a huge ballroom feel like a true night club!

It's somewhat unusual to have such a incredible set up in these parts, so I guess that's why they imported from N.Y.

Just watch the first 30 seconds...

I have to say - what a WOW factor!

DJ Booth Table Solution

I don't know how this topic on DJ booths went from, "I need something higher up," to, "use a facade!!!"

... and the stairs comment is really valid! If that huge carpeted case the size of a hotdog stand bounced down stairs, it would crush a wall!

google 'double arm keyboard stand' or 'double X keyboard stand'

I use a keyboard stand with the double-arm design. They click to adjustable heights, crush to 2" thick, are easy to haul and carry, quick to set up, etc. I can carry my technics turntables n mixer in my home made coffin like a server tray and have someone else carry the keyboard stand. Set up the keyboard stand first, centered in your area. Set your decks and proceed. Get sound going first so your spectators will be impressed.

I can run with all my gear solo. Keep the heavy part to your chest, lift with your legs, use sturdy containers, padd your gear!

I use some discarded crushed velvet from a caterer to put over the two pegs of the keyboard stand. The wires go under and the whole setup looks pretty clean. Everyone can see what I am doing and has access to view my monitor as we speak.
