I keep my controller on my stove.
So you're looking to be the next Soupy Sales comedian.I keep my controller on my stove.![]()
Please explain how the knobs and encoders would get crushed, damaged?
You're talking a soft case and I was talking about a hard case. Why would you put anything on top of a soft case unless it's a feather?Easy. They're on the top panel of the controller. When you put the controller in a soft case and close/zip it up, especially one where it's a tight fit (because the controller is almost a half-inch taller than the controllers that the case was designed for), pressure is put on the buttons, knobs, faders and everything else. Stack something on top of the case or squeeze it in between the other stuff in your car, and that soft case is going to get smooshed.
The knobs/encoders are soldered onto circuit boards. Putting forceful downward pressure on them will cause those connections to break. It's happened on my Roland piano and it's very likely to happen on a Roland DJ controller.
This is one of the reasons that Decksavers are recommended when transporting your gear in a soft case.

I didn't mean any harm. I was just thinking of cases that I have had that had foam cushions on the left and right side of the case to keep the controller in the case stable so it doesn't get damaged. My suggestion was about if a case is not a perfect fit how to at least make it work. So that's why I suggested to take measurements and find a case close to the measurements and make adjustments so it can fit in a case without it moving in the case while transporting the gear.B-Sharp, you can not take that guy personal. I think he is spaming us or more than one person is using the same account.
That's probably good advice. I'll start with the Roland, and see how that plays out for me in real life. It's fast and easy to build multiple cases of the same type simultaneously so having the same board in each makes more sense.I think you'd be better off buying two of the Roland controllers. Less of a learning curve, smaller form factor, and better build quality (and sound card). I used a Pioneer DDJ-SZ (big) for 10 years and recently switched to a Rane Four (smaller but slightly heavier), and bought the Roland because there are still times when I'd love to have the convenience of something small and lightweight. If I had a case for it, I'd probably take it out more than my Rane Four.
What kind of case do you like to use? Is it a travel case that you take it in and out of - or a working system case where it resides with just a removable cover? If I had a case for it, I'd probably take it out more than my Rane Four.

I would assume in this instance the usefulness of the controller far outweighs making sure there is a case available. The Op did state while he would rather not he is perfectly capable of building case probably far better than mass produced oneLet me suggest in the future if a DJ is looking into getting a controller, check and see if there's a case that the controller will fit into.
I suggest when looking into speakers you buy bags or covers!Let me suggest in the future if a DJ is looking into getting a controller, check and see if there's a case that the controller will fit into.
Yes, I believe I have.Bob have you decided on the controller you want to do what you want it to do?
Keep checking back. I'll start a thread where I ask for advice, people contribute, and I use someone's advice to reach a decision. What is it?
I am curious, Did you buy the stove top model ?Keep checking back. I'll start a thread where I ask for advice, people contribute, and I use someone's advice to reach a decision.
Could come at any time.
Now that's funny! If he did he would have to buy it used because that controller was discontinued. Personally I love it because it does everything I need it to do, it was solidly built, compact and light weight. Not like some controllers that you need it to be in a case on wheels to transport it to do an event.I am curious, Did you buy the stove top model ?
