Big thing to keep in mind, is when you need to have a logo printed, embroidered, silk-screened, etc.
Making it too complicated, with too many colors and curves, will not only cost more, but also cause bleeding of the colors. When in doubt, simpler is better with logos IMHO -- and gets imprinted in potential client's heads easier
Think AT&T, IBM and Fedex -- you can see their logos in your head
Just my thoughts...
