Anyone using the Electro Voice Live x PASSIVES? Either the ELX 112's or 115's with or without subs. Lot's of posts on the actives, not so much on the passives. If you have any experience with them, what do you like/dislike about them, what do you power them with.

I bought a pair of elx112's from Ben a year ago and love them for what they are. I bought them without hearing them as stage monitors on Ben's word that they would sound better than JRXs. As usual, he was absolutely correct! In addition to being stage monitors, I use them for DJ events which don't require dance music and it allows me to run with just a mixer and an amp. I have never had to tweak them with an EQ. The bass response drops off rapidly at what I would guess to be 80Hz, but that's not saying there is no bottom. If you get them against a wall for reinforcement they have some pump to them. But out in the middle of a room up on a stick they have no low bass as with any almost any 12" full range speaker. They would be great with subs.

Sound comparison wise they are a big step above a JRX 112, similar in volume level to a Yamaha S112 but smoother sounding, not as efficient as an MRX 112 but again smoother. I find that they don't get horn honk like Yamaha or JBL. For an amp I find that they match up very well with QSC GX5.

My only complaint is the thin coating which is much closer to a being a painted finish than the durable truckbed liner finish on other boxes, but again, in this price range most boxes are rat fur and I'd rather than these!

Would I buy them again? YES! In fact, will probably be buying another pair soon as I need more monitors.

I use the Live X actives and I also love them (and would buy them again) - and also the only complaint here is the thin paint coating.
