I know, I know. Just couldn't help myself. I NEVER buy an album for the business, only for personal reasons. I guess I was just fortunate that I started up in the age of digi downloads and sub services and never needed to buy an album. Won't start now either! :)

Alright, I take that back... I bought the international version of Shania's 'Come On Over." Only business album I've bought.
 
You mean album for the biz right? I do know you bought some Big Band CDs etc at Wally World in the past.

I would not consider that fortunate...

Knowing the artists, and their bodies of work, is a large part of what separates the run of the mill DJ, from the exceptional one... ;)

Everything worth knowing about their body of work for business purposes is known in the tracks we have or get that we'll ever realistically use at an event...

As was evidenced by many here in another recent thread scoffing at the notion that they should need more than 4 or 5 Beatles songs to be a "real dj." :tritongue:

I'm encyclopedic when it comes to music I personally enjoy listening to, but there's nothing I need to know about 'N Sync's body of work beyond the singles I currently have.

I would disagree...

My reasoning, is that I've always used a lot of trivia during my gigs, as well as the fact that if somebody asks me for a song that's not among the artist's bigger hits, I know what that song is, and whether it will fit the moment.

If you don't know their music, you can't make a reliable decision, nor can you ad lib about that artist.



I see that as a difference in style -- entertainer versus a warm body to keep the dance floor filled...

Just my thoughts :)
 
That is a perfectly legitimate point, and a perfectly legitimate difference in style where we need to be sure we don't make (or sneak in) value judgments as to "what's right" or "what's better." (ie subtle connotation about "warm body.")

I for one am NOT an "entertainer," and I not only admit it openly, but have it very squarely and simply stated on my site, and my clients actually appreciate that and hire me because of it. Again, not good or bad, just different strokes for different folks.

I am familiar with my library of singles and can make the aforementioned judgment calls regarding selections, appropriateness, etc. I've just taken care not to let my library be bogged down with the extraneous or the unnecessary. Elsewhere, in other threads, this simplicity in a library is the very approach you argue passionately for. :tricool:

It was known long before this thread we have different performance styles:)

Amazon is doing that a lot lately... even with the new Taylor Swift CD. They did it with a U2 CD as well.
 
I never open links on my business PC. Is this supposed to be a Kid Rock version of the original?
 
Bought a copy of this "CD" the other day........from Little Caesar's Pizza! :dontknow: :tribiggrin: Seriously..... :)
