Okay as admin at ODJT I respectfully made references only too the site when it came up in conversation along with a non conspicuous 12 '' Circumference Bullseye Logo on the back of my shirt. Somehow allowing for the occasional hey what is ODJT. However I didnt hand out ODJT cards but wrote in the website url for ourdjtalk.com on the back of my business cards. I handed out 200 with only 3 remaining on Thursday the final day.
This was when the Beer Goggles took place on the first night I decided it was time to bring a little Kid Rock to Vegas after being in Mexico for a 7 day stint in which I got invited to DJ at the Night Club and A Pool PArty the saturday before I left.
Upon checking in I immediately stepped up to the bar saying Senor un cervesa Por Favor. This all in my Dusty Rhodes costume. Folks in the place were looking and probably wondering who the crazy fool was in such an outfit. Later that night at Rock Star KAraoke I stepped out for some fresh air and a true to life PIMP decked out even in a Fox Coat and with Chalice and Gemmed Walking Stick . We shared admiration for one anothers get up but I had a sneaking suspicion he looked a bit concerned I was edging in on his turf.
The Grand entrance to MBLV 07 Gear or No Gear got the hoped for and expected responses. I accepted them graciously. (Thanks to all ourdjtalk support and back up in case I got bum rushed from any of the potential too serious type.) Did I mention several folks in SUITS. I met lots of folks this night the delivery of Gear or No Gear was slow and boring the production was excellent but no energy which in a room full of Mobile DJs was the beginning of a funeral march. Effort doesnt always lead to success much mentioned in James Malinchaks seminar and my show favorite he was referring to hard work and how its a myth that it achieves success. Adjusting for comfort can actually guide you to the motherlode much easier.
I went to Rock Star Karaoke with Dave his wife (they were the most comfy taxi ride in town, bottomfeeders Taxi service LOL) IT was meant to be we drove around and found a parking spot next to the elevator leading right to the House of Blues. Carolyn , myself, Dave his wife then proceeded to find a table and shortly after Tyrone and his wife arrived having his wife share the fact she won over 600 dollars at the Southpointe Hold Em competition. We had the good fortune of waiting 2 hours for Carolyn myself and Dave to sing. Giving plenty of liquid courage for those two. Mine started a week prior in Mexico and only held over for Vegas. Carolyns rendition of Drift Away was dreamy and incerdible. She mesmerized the crowd. I almost canceled my efforts because of having to follow her, but for fortunately I did another shot of Tequila bit a lime and poured a glass of water to calm my gravely voice. I had my pimp daddy meets Dusty Rhodes coat etc on so chose Born To Be Wild............ in which I danced with the guitarists during solo portions and even doused the audience with a full glass of water ( good thing they thought it all a part of the act). I had a blast. LAst but not least Dave Nextgen Pumped the party to the break of Dawn with Celebration which garnered a packed dance floor ( the only one all night). We all danced and had a great time, and did I mention we drank a bit too?
Next day attended seminars and honestly gained a few tips here and there but mostly gained confirmation for what I am doing and the direction Im putting focus on.
Tuesday night was the Chubby Checkers show. He gave us great props for being another avenue outside of Radio which their songs could reach audience and even better allow the accompanying dances to be done at our events.
I then hooked up with Dave Beals a rep from my CODJA association which I belong to. We networked ( drank a bit as well) clear up to 7 AM Wednesday Morning. I missed a couple seminars but ended up with James Malinchaks awesome motivational seminar followed by Scott Favers. James was hands down everyones favorite. Scott was more confirmation for me and a bit more interactive than my style. But energetic I must say.
We got to have a great first run of the DMX 101 Demo put on by Tyrone aka LArry Williams making DMX easy for even the slowest of the bunch even me on Wednesday afternoon. Thursday night our plans sort of got waylayed for the second dinner effort with a few no shows, a sick notice and myself , Keith and Judy wondering what to do. I opted out on going down town to them as I knew I was about to hit my wall.
I ended up partying at the ADJ appreciation Bash buying drinks for Amber and Troy and anyone else who didnt have extra freebie drink tickets. Little did I know they were handing em out on the dance floor. Oh well I was having fun. I passed out early on this night getting to to bed after almost falling asleep eating early breakfast. I slept for 8 hours straight which was more than the whole earlier part of the week.
Thursday I made it to two seminars. Then networked with folks for lunch from ODJT in which as Carolyn pointed out we gained a last minute valuable networking session amongst Jim, Dave Sherry Carolyn , 8 of us in whole gaining valuable info ODJT style.
I then went up and got a last minute look at gear. Two things caught my eye. The new B52 PROdigy FX Mixer CD Station. Of course getting a full sample from the B52 folks. Then after some unknown won the gear give away I went back to the Denon Booth as I wanted persistently to speak with Silvio. He graciously answered all my questions and cleared up any concerns for making the HD-2500 an awesome choice for proper control of Digital for an Arthritic person such as myself. After seeing the PRodigy, though it along with Serato would give me a great option for control.Silvio went above and beyond so I'm leaning towards this option.
I spent much of Thursday night packing, gambling and then went for a few drinks in the lounge where two piano players played requests all night.
The next day I went and ate my free buffett meal and then checked out. Shared a taxi with our friend DJ Scotty who also hails from Canada but was born in California just like me.Had osme good conversation and even met anothe Vancouver DJ flew home with us and exchanged cards.
This trip was worth three times the money I spent on alcohol LOL. But seriously three times I spent on both the whole package including alcohol. Keith was one of the first ones I hoped to meet up with and we had many times to chat and enjoy together. DJ Bob, Cap, Barry Stamper shocked me cause I didnt know he was coming as I was in Mexico when he must have shared his intentions, Val and her partner, I met so many more and none less important but Im not so good with names so forgive me if I missed you or at least mention our visit and I will give my take on that. Mr Gray umm Jim we have some music stuff to work on in the future. Briar thank God your wife asked me to babysit you so nicely. I had a blast with ya. Amber thanks for the dance and the smile.
