Mobile Beat is reaching out everywhere we can and is in the process of being a sponsor of the forums here. Please send me input as to what you want out of Mobile Beat, the website, the tour, the trade show, anything.

Ryan

Speaking of reaching out, I was phoned this evening during dinner by a salesgirl trying to sell Mobile Beat magazine to me. It took several attempts to get her to realize that I'm definitely not interested in a subscription. Finally, she asked why and did not like my answer. She also refused to acknowledge my request to remove me from their phone list.

Welcome Ryan, thanks for being a sponsor here!

Did I win anything?

Welcome to the forum, Ryan. It's great to see you here. I know how pressed you are for time and your presence speaks well of your commitment to reach out. I can't imagine why Ducky is so irritated about an opportunity to subscribe to Mobile Beat Magazine. I know that I look forward to every issue.

Ryan, I think it's great you are a sponsor here. It's a great group of people that sometimes play music or something like that

I would suggest something other than B List dated performers at the Vegas Convention. Like Warrant??? Really??? Their career is over. How about acts that can benefit from playing for a bunch of DJ's.

Also I have nothing against age but Mobile Beat has always been geared toward the Older Dinosaur wedding DJ's in the industry. I would like to hear more from Professional DJ's 18 to 35.

Why doesn't anyone ever write controversial articles like "How To Steal Gigs From Your Competition" or "Ways to under bid competition and still make money." I'd also like to see a Big Poll of What DJ's are offering in a list of major markets for $XXX.XX Compile local and national average pricing.

I had a subscription a few years ago. I just found the magazine to be about 10 pages of actual reading and a ton of advertisement.

I would pay for a sub if the DJ industry could find some new industry leaders that are young and upcoming.

I think the normal article writers are good at what they do but most of the time when I read something it comes from the same group of people or camp.

Welcome Ryan,

I attend your Show every year, subscribe to your magazine and look forward to your sponsorship here.

I'll have some suggestions as time allows.

I'll speak for Ducky, since she and I agree on most things concerning our business.

The girl calling refused to acknowledge Ducky's request to be taken off of the phone list the girl was using. Then proceeded to push the subscription even further. At this point (and I agree with Ducky) the girl calling was told that to us a magazine with articles having no real revelance to our immediate market by supposed industry leaders that people have never heard of isn't worth the money...period.

I think that Cam has some very valid points about the Mobile Beat magazine. It's time to get some fresh blood in there writing articles and maybe articles that would appeal to a wider variety of readers. I know in the 6 issues we got, I was pretty darn tired of hearing about jacking my rates up every issue.

Ryan, if you want Mobile Beat to be better respected amongst DJs and to help shape a "DJ Industry" then maybe it's time to start acting like other professional industries. How about a call for submissions from folks who are in the front trenches, battling the "craiglisters", beating the bridal show circuits, making their own gear cases, etc.

I have forwarded your request to my telemarketing firm. We are working on reaching even more of the DJ market and was surprised when I saw this post. Could you please tell me what you told her. Please PM me your phone number and I'll make sure you are removed.

We were only offering 3 free issues, not even selling anything.

If we could afford to bring more artists out we would. But with attendees are aren't willing to pay much more than $149 to $179 a pass, we really can't do much on the budget. I'd love to book something higher, but with 1300-1500 attendees it's not feasible.

Also I have nothing against age but Mobile Beat has always been geared toward the Older Dinosaur wedding DJ's in the industry. I would like to hear more from Professional DJ's 18 to 35.

We have been doing much more on expanding your company beyond weddings.

Sure, who would you recommend to write such an article. Big poll, we have done in the past, maybe time to do it again.

I had a subscription a few years ago. I just found the magazine to be about 10 pages of actual reading and a ton of advertisement.

We have about a 40% advertising to 60% editorial radio, less than most magazines, I'd love to have more of both and add another 20 pages to it.

I would pay for a sub if the DJ industry could find some new industry leaders that are young and upcoming.

I think the normal article writers are good at what they do but most of the time when I read something it comes from the same group of people or camp.

We have brought alot of new blood into the magazine in the last 5 years since I bought it, and would love more. Suggestions.

Ryan

PS: I love constructive crititizm like this, keep bringing it.

I'm listening, and the new MB has been much more responsive than the old magazine was. Check out what I wrote on the new articles in another reply I just finished. Send us more. And remember on the sub deal, we were offering 3 free issues, nothing paid at all.
