I have a new website that I'm working on and don't want anyone to know who is running it which is why I'm asking... Any info from you internet guru's on the following would be appreciated.

Say you have a website, with your own email for that domain, say... [email protected] If someone sends you an email and you answer them from your regular home computer but through your domain's email system by first logging into www.dumbassdj.com/siteadmin, is there anyway for the recipient to see / get your IP and figure out who you are?

BTW, the new site has nothing to do with porn. I knew you were going to ask...

If I'm not mistaken they see the IP of the computer you are on not the IP of the site. Unless you are doing something illegal and the police get involved with your ISP there is no way they can directly link the IP back to you.

Now that being said they can run a whois to find out who owns the domain name and that will link you to the name

Are you trying to mastermind a take over of the internet again?:sqwink:

Generally yes. All email clients and most webmail clients send the IP address of computer sending the message in the message's header. That being said I've venture to say 80% of people couldn't figure out how to view the full headers of an email message in the first place.

That being said the IP address only comes back to your ISP, not you personally. Unless you're doing something illegal and the police get involved your ISP won't release who is actually leasing your IP address.

also if you have the security addition when purchasing your URL they only see who the provider is and not your name otherwise if you dont they will see you as the owner of the site.I know it isnt illegal Steves an honest guy and my friend.

Thanks guys, looks like I will be able to answer the emails from my cushy chair then... Nothing illegal at all, just don't want people to know that I'm running the site. All involved domains have the privacy feature on them, so I'm good there.

Sorry but I can't really tell you what the site is about, cause if I told you, I'd have to kill you... Lol

lol all I will say is ......

now I know who owns them new SEX sites that have all of a sudden popped up :)

You may as well be asking is it's possible to go downtown and not be video taped by someone.

For every person that creates a security measure, there's one that creates a way to beat it. The internet is for public use and bears a certain amount of risk for those using it.

If complete anonymity were possible, there would be a thousand times more crimes being
committed out here.

Big brother is everywhere.

aaahhh But hank thats if you really know what you are doing....

I just have to drive downtown and can hook into 30x wifi spots with free access to the internet and noone has any idea I am doing what I am doing

plus if I told you what I really did I would have to kill you :)
