I need to vent too.

I went to the function yesterday and it was OK. The DJs that did the event were OK. They showed up at 1PM and the event started at 12. For me I would have gotten there no later than 11AM to setup. Never mind that not many people were there when I got there at 1. The setup was decent. They had 3 subs and 3 tops. 2 of the CV subs that were made some years ago that have the built-in amps. The other sub was a Yorkville sub. 2 of the tops were the original Mackie Thumps and the other was a Yorkville. The sound was OK. I just thought there were at times too much bass.

They did an pretty good job. I didn't like that as they were playing they were messing with wires. Unhooking them and then reconnecting them. I say set things up properly when you first setup and be done with the setup unless something happens that you must fix am issue.

The music was all from the 70's. That was the theme of the event. They did good with what they played. I just say how it should have went was instead of having speakers sharing in another room, they should have been in the big room and when they took a break have the DJs play some music and let them get down when the speaker portion was done.

The chair person asked me what I thought of them? Getting my ego out the way I said OK with twisting my hand.

Now let me say this before I get beat up on here. I was not upset with not being chosen to do the event. If I felt that way I would have not come to the event. I say when God has something for you that's when you will get it and nobody can take it away from you.

It's counterproductive to cast people off for the first person able to make a deposit. Sure, we get ONE solid booking, but that's in exchange for another person who holds only ill will and shares that poor experience with others. (Bad news travels faster than good news.)

There's no weakness in extending someone an opportunity for first refusal. We can get a solid booking and earn people's respect at the same time.

Personally, I prefer to work with both customers even if I have to refer them to someone else from which I receive no benefit. Then I follow up post event to see how it went. People prefer vendors who care about their interest, and if I'm the last person they talked with regarding their event then I might also be the first one they refer.

Advertising is bought and disappears the moment you stop paying for it. Reputation is built and remains for a long time; unless we discard it - which is what can happen if we treat people as commodities.
I’ve had a very hard time finding other performers who care as much as I do about an event, mostly because of my extremely rural setting. That being said I make it very clear that I do not hold dates without a deposit, it is in you best interest to book as soon as you are ready, every potential client is told this

Mixxy, how many guests and what was their average age? Sounds like way too much sound equipment was used. I'll bet a pair Evolve 30's would have been sufficient. Why always the need for huge speakers?? Is that all they had? And showing up late is inexcusable.

The room is a super big room. For that venue you surely need to bring some fire power. I didn't agree with the 3 subs and I hate the original Mackie Thumps. I never saw those guys before.

I did a 100 guest wedding in a large ballroom Friday evening with two RCF Evox j8
It depends on the type of event you're doing as well as the size of the room. You did a 100 person wedding. That would require in my opinion a setup concentrated on the dance floor. A thousand person event would require a lot more in a ballroom.
