I need help with playing CD's through my laptop while working an event.

I got a gig coming up this Tuesday. The senior center that my mother attends wants me to come and help them again with another event. I did one a little while back and they liked it. They had CD's for me to use. It was a lip sync event. I tried to use my recorder to play back the CD's. At first it worked and when I got started with the gig I got major feed back and couldn't use the CD's. Luckily I had the songs on my HD.

This event is a gospel event. So I don't know if I will have all the gospel songs on my HD. I was told they probably will bring CD's for me to use. I use VDJ. So I need to find out how to load CD's into my laptop and play a song from my system? I'm not a computer wiz so please be kind with me. What do I need to do?
Virtual DJ 8 will read your PC CD player just like it reads yVDJ 1.jpg VDJ 2.jpg VDJ 2.jpg our HD.

Your laptop should have Windows Media Player pop up as an option to click on as a program to play the cd once the cd loads.

However, you certainly can use VDJ8 to play off of a CD.

However, I will say this: You should always carry a dual CD Player with you...at minimum a single disco, OR WALK MAN CD PLayer plugged into the Phono or AUX on your mixer would even be sufficient. Back in the 90s, some DJs used walk man CD Players to play music.

I use a Dual CD Numark Mix Station on all events, and carry my CDs with me. I play about 30% of my music from CD. I am doing a Mitzvah tonight...I guarantee I will play many songs off of the more recent NOW CDs tonight such as Now 53, 54, 55, 56. I'll probably play Icona Pop off of Now 47, maybe even Call Me Maybe off of Now 43 even though I have those songs on my laptop too.

I advocate still using CDs at events today...at least as a back up.

So many solutions, most that should be known by any mobile DJ. How about RTFM?

backup yes maybe, but I have to disagree with you about using CDs... I am one of the last few to give mine up and I have never looked back. There are so many more reasons to go all laptop now. Faster song finding, amount of music you can carry in a small space and saving your back to name a few. I have been doing this 30 years and I went from records to Laptop... never will I say I miss any of the media and that it is better than what most are doing now.

I don't know if I made the post or not but my friend showed me how to do it. No problems there. My problem was not knowing how to get the draw open to put a CD in. I got it figured out after I had the plastic front piece come off. LOL.

I too stopped using CD's to DJ with several years ago and haven't looked back. I just needed to know how to do this when someone wants you to play a song on a CD. Using a laptop has made DJing much easier for me. The down side are those who think they can just get a laptop, DJ software program and some powered speakers and instantly become a DJ.

Well, let's be honest... that really is all it takes.

Mix, you do know the "emergency" manual procedure for opening most CD/DVD/Disc-based drives that have a single drawer ("cup holder"), right??

Works with computers, media players, and gaming devices, as long as they have that little hole right next to the drive...
