I already heard them. A friend of mine has 8 of them.
Better get them up and running before the warranty expires!
Why not have your girlfriend stay over at your place & help you get them up an running?
Friend has eight and can't loan you one for a 1 hour gig? Can not help you get yours working. Where the speakers floor models / used?
Idon't you have a friend that has eight Adrian? You may know a person that has eight?

Borrowing money to buy gear that you dont need to get through a gig is a big no.
borrowing money to buy gear during a global pandemic is another big no
buying gear that’s not in top notch condition is another big no
not knowing how to fix gear that’s not in top notch condition...is..you guessed it..a no
not being very familiar with your back up equipment......

It's not a 1 hour gig and no need I have my own now. At least you were being funny. Don't worry it will get done this coming week.

Let me say that you saying I shouldn't have bought those speakers. I should have bought something else for less money is not my feelings. I wanted quality and not just looking to save money. I like having quality speakers and not something just to get by with.

Let me ask this question please. What speakers did you buy and why did you buy them.

Mix,

I told you in previous threads to get the Harbinger MLS 1000 system. Would have eliminated stands so nobody has to see your speakers on junk stands, and are more than enough speaker for the events that you do. If you had to have conventional cabinets, then I said to get Harbinger 3400 series. Would have saved a bunch of money, and been plenty of speaker for the few events that you do each year. You have no need for QSC K12.2 speakers.

Do you know who makes Harbinger? Thanks but I got what I wanted. I never considered Harbinger. You like them and that's fine for you. If I went that route I would choose Bose over Harbinger.

You are an impulse buyer Mix.

You did not need QSC K12.2 Speakers for the types of events you do. You just are compelled to buy things you don't need. Always going with the overkill option. For the events you do, you had no reason to spend over $1,000 on speakers. You also have no need for any speakers that weigh over 40 lbs.

It wasn't a terrible financial I decision you made, but it wasn't a good or thought out one.
I MADE SURE I BOUGHT SPEAKERS THAT IF I NEEDED MORE SOUND FOR AN EVENT I COULD GET THAT. You can have too little but never too much if you know what you're doing. I've witnessed personally a DJ damaging speakers because they didn't have enough sound for the event and pushing speakers beyond their limits.

The way I look at a manufacturer is in business to make a profit. The people who make product have to get paid. The materials needed to make the product cost money. So when has a very cheap price and I'm talking speakers right now, that let's me know that the materials inside the speaker can't be but so good. Especially with active speakers.

I checked online at Ebay and saw those Peavey DM 112 speakers and I got to say they're not bad at all for the price. I know Peavey is a good name brand. My first speakers when I came back were a pair of Peavey SP2G speakers and they worked great! The sound was awesome! Good choice Tunes4046.

Definitely, surely a good friend would help a friend in need, or perhaps this is just an acquaintance and not really a friend
I've known this DJ for many years. It's me. I just don't like asking to borrow stuff. It's my responsibility to have what I need to do an event.

It’s also your responsibility to be prepared in the off an emergency, proper insurance coverage for the gear you own, liability insurance that covers you at events, setting money aside for future purchases, it’s want any responsible business person does. You can’t talk about being responsible in one sentence when you have even figured out how to use your well worn controller or if it even works, an then purchasing speaker that have functions well beyond your technical skill level what if you’re offered a gig tomorrow can you perform can you figure everything out without someone’s help???

For your last question no.

Okay so I totally get that. I hate asking too, which is why I have a garage full of gear, 90% of it which never gets used.

People do ask me if THEY can borrow or rent things from me. I only let things go out to people I trust, but the answer is always yes, come get it. Usually there's no charge. Some examples: a Photobooth printer. A specific backdrop that a bride wants for her wedding. A speaker. A case of uplights. The dry ice fogger for dancing on the clouds. When your buddy Bob Carpenter needed a pair of speakers to get him through December because he had sold off his old ones and his new ones were still backordered, my extra pair of Evox 8s were his for the month.

Only when people start to need the same piece of gear multiple times do I suggest that they go buy one of their own, or just buy mine. With the photobooth backdrops, me and few other people have a little pool going... it saves us money because we aren't all purchasing the same designs. We just borrow the designs we need when we need them. For the other things, I'd rather have them going out and helping my friends make some money.

My point is that if you only have a few gigs lined up, it's perfectly fine to ask a friend to borrow some gear. I started DJing in 1986 at church dances using a PA system that my middle school librarian let me take home on the weekends, the only condition being that I had it back in the storage closet on Monday morning like it had never left the building - it was our little arrangement. At the first wedding I did, a very low-key backyard event in 1990, I didn't even own a sound system, but I knew some established DJs who could help me out. Because of their generosity, I decided to pay it forward when possible.

We're all friends in this business, really. Your friend has probably borrowed a piece of gear or two from other people at some point. There's never any harm in asking, and the worst thing your friend can do is say no.

I’m the same way. I have no problem helping someone I know out. Plenty have helped me in the past. We have to be cautious about people we don’t know well. But I’ve solidified a number of long time friends by helping others when I could.
I’d never ask if there was wasn’t a need and I expect the same from my friends.

So Mixy,

Why aren’t you able to get any sound out of your new speakers? What troubleshooting have you done so far?

Are you going to keep the broken controller?
My partner came got sound from the speaker and to answer your other question, .y partner talked me into returning that controller. I went to GC in Springfield, NJ and soon as the manager saw it he said it was busted. I just gave him my phone number and he looked me. He returned the money I paid onto my card and told me the money will be back on my card in 24 to 48 hours. You and my partner were right. That thing was a hot mess.

The right slide wouldn't work right. One of the mic knows was broken and the fader had problems with the sound. When you pushed the fader all the way to one side you could still hear the other song that was playing in the background.

They have one in that GC that looks much better. I will buy that one on May 1st. Just make sure everything is working perfectly. One thing I knew is they were going to refund my money because I've been dealing with them for 24 years since I came back. It made sense to return it because I was never going to be happy with that one. Thanks for beating me up and getting me to see that controller wasn't worth it.
