Tyrone, You're a good man. I will no longer do any 'free' gigs. I've done it before and like you, they don't appreciate it. I am embarrassed to say it but I've given away at least to gigs in the last three years. Once I drove from SF to LA, (400 M each way) and my cousin didn't even offer me any gas money nor a meal or anything. Did I learn? No, i still did it again and again, but I have decided not to ever do it again.
Thank you for sharing. Just today, one of my (so-called) friends informed me that won't be needing my service, for his wedding because his father in law to be, found a 'cheaper' show on time. I didn't want to spoil it, but the fellow they got, onced got drunk at show and even fell off on stage! his young cousin had to finish the event for him. I figure, if 50% wasn't enough for them, heck, I got another gig already that will pay me more per hour and it will only be a four hour event.
