With Just Eliminators??? B.S.

I heard this combination recently and it was deafening.[/B] 2 mains, 2 subs.
You could FEEL the bass 30 feet back.

Are you talking about the Kilowatt Eliminators?? the duel 18's??

One JBL SRX 715 is $1,400, so I'll ask the same question you asked, does he want speakers that can make up several powerful wedding systems?

Where do you buy your gear?? Your getting ripped off...I can buy new 722's or 725's for less than that

A pair of Eliminators without subs can do just about any wedding of around 200-250 people. They kick ass.

I know from your previous posts that you love Peavey and don't think much of Electro Voice, you've made that perfectly clear. LOTS of professional sound people don't agree with you.

Your now talking from your rear end. Go on the PSW forums and tell them how your doing "thousands"of people with Eliminators.......You will not get a response from them laughing so hard at you....

As far as the SRX goes, I'd rather buy 3 excellent quality Eliminators for the price of one SRX. Let's compare the SPLs.

You really need to hear a properly deployed, and powered SRX system before you run your mouth like this Wiz

I helped set up a sound system at Tropicana field in St. Petersburg FL last year. This is a large domed stadium where we set up on one end. There was a trade show covering about 1/3 of the stadium floor next to us. You could hear the music clearly throughout the stadium, but We weren't providing sound to the whole stadium, just to the audience in from of the stage where hundreds of chairs were set up.

There was a stage that was about 40 feet wide. On each end was a big, heavy, OLD Peavey with a 15" black widow or scorpion and a big horn. On top of that on each side was another smaller speaker with a 15" woofer. This was the mains, 4 speakers.

On the stage were a couple of Yamaha S115m monitors and maybe one more monitor all on the floor. None of the speakers we used were any better than the Eliminator speakers. There must have been around 2,000-3,000 people when Frankie Avalon performed. Out of the blue, in front of everyone he thank the sound guys and commented later how pleased he was.

So, 2 Eliminators on each side and 2 Eliminator subs coupled in the center plus two amps is around $4,5000. How much JBL gear will that get you? 2 SRX 715s, one sub and maybe one amp.

We used the same setup but added two Yamaha subs at an outdoor Jazz festival a couple of months ago. This was a large outdoor area with a stage about 40-50 feet from a bleacher area with hundreds of people. Plenty of sound. Two Eliminators and one sub per side would be comparable IMO.

Are you telling me that the pair of SRX 715s and one sub will put out more and better sound than the 4 Eliminators and the two Eliminator subs?

The price for the JBL 715s was online from zzounds, a reputable dealer as far as I know, but I've never bought anything from them. Same price at every other internet audio retailer I checked, $1,359. Maybe you can get them for $1,250 each?

Don't think the Eliminators are any good? What about TourX? about $750 each, a little more than half the price of one SRX. But, I've never heard one so I can't say what they sound like. A Peavey SP2 is only around $500, you could get two and a half for about the same price of one JBL SRX.

Anyways, there are lots of high quality, high performance speakers out there other than JBL that are a much better deal IMO. If you like JBL and don't care to compare them to other high quality reputable products, that's up to you.

I never said I know everything about sound reinforcement, but I do know what I heard recently and that's what I've been talking about. If people would laugh about Eliminators being good quality, capable speakers I don't know what to tell you. When was the last time you heard them?

Wiz.

the Eliminator line is a entry level rig from EV.

I know perfectly well what there capable of, as i started out with them.

The eliminator subs are 400 watts, and do well for a small cab built from MDF.
They are not in the same league as a SRX sub.

If you want to talk about something comparable from EV, Then, One must compare apples to apples....The QRX line will go toe to toe with SRX boxes.

And at a similar price point. The EV Phoenix line are very comparable also.

Eliminators stand no chance against any of these....

Have you heard the difference between a real Baltic Birch sub and a cheap MDF one?? One will fall apart, One will be pounding away 15 years later...

Well then we're partially in agreement here because I said the same thing as you earlier in the thread. Compare EV QRX to the JBL SRX.

However, the point I was trying to make was that even a mid level product like the Eliminators puts out great sound for a fraction of the price of the SRX and with the exception of the MOST discriminating listeners, plenty good for most people. Can the average Joe really tell the difference? Who are we making sound for? Other DJs? Audiophiles?

In a larger venue with a large audience what happens to the sound anyways? It changes the sound a lot. There aren't surfaces close by to bounce off.

Take a large volume building like the stadium I talked about and see how much you can tell the difference between the Eliminators and the SRX. Maybe I'm all wrong on this . . .

Your missing the boat here.

Eliminators are not mid-level. There built from cheap fiber board..(mdf)
And will not stand up to touring abuse, as the real mid-level stuff will.

Real mid level stuff is built from 13 ply, Void free, Baltic Birch. VERY big difference here.

Eliminators have small cheaply made voice coils that will distort, or fail when pushed hard.....(I know this first hand)

3 inch voice coils compared to 4 inch edge wound coils is a big difference in the life of a sub.........

Another thing to think about. How many years does it take to get your money back from a piece of equipment? Three years? Five? How many gigs? Are you going to depreciate speakers over 15 years? Wouldn't you rather depreciate and sell 3 year old speakers and get new ones? Lots of things to consider. Are most customers going to ask what kind of speakers you use? If it's for a touring band maybe.

What's going to be the majority of his business? What kind of events? Mostly weddings? Does he need a pair of JBL SRX at $1,359 per speaker for 150 or 200 people? I don't know? Can you achieve decent sound for 150-200 people with a pair of speakers that cost $500 per speaker? I bet you could . . .

How many people on average are at a wedding? How many large corporate events do you need to do per year to justify buying a pair of speakers that cost $1,359 each plus the cost of subs and amps?

If it's a business then you need to make a profit.

No way is QRX a mid grade product. They are definitely a higher end product line. Maybe not tip top, but certainly not mid grade. QRX is priced comparable to the JBL SRX so how is that mid grade? Is JBL SRX mid grade?

As far as Force and Eliminators go, the cabinet may be the same, but the drivers aren't.

I think I read somewhere that the TourX and eliminators use the same drivers. Maybe the main difference is that the TourX use Baltic Birch and the Eliminators use MDF?

One thing I've been guilty of over the past few years is trying to get by with fewer amps....running them stereo to my subs, bridging them but daisy chaining my subs together. Now I realize that to get the performance out of this srx rig I have to feed each cab (8 of them) with 2400 watts each. I'll be running a single QSC PLX2 amp to each.

My buisness plan with this system is using it for large HS dances (proms mostly) in which we charge between $2500 - $10,000 per gig. And getting into the corporate market which is substantial here in the Kansas City metro.

I will not be using this for weddings - unless - the venue is very large, which is about 4-5 weddings each year. We have 3 JBL PRX systems for weddings.

By the way, thanks for the back and fourth on this one guys - it's actually helping me understand things....ding, ding, ding....that was the bell. Time for round 10 :sqwink:

I may be pretty new to this but one important thing I've learned is that the EV speakers I've personally had experience with are more efficient than some other brands. This means you don't need 2400 watts going into one speaker and that was one of the points I was trying to make.

A highe sensitivity, high SPL speaker means you can run more speakers from one amp or use a smaller, less expensive amp to put out high SPLs. An amp that can dissipate 1,400 watts per channel at 4 ohms can run 4 EV Eliminator subs or 4 tops. So now you cut the number of amps you need to carry in half.

I find it hard to believe that no Eliminators are being used professionally and that it's strictly an entry level product and that only hacks and garage bands use them.

Lot's of good products out there to consider. As I said before, check out Yorkville and FBT. Check out RCF and QSC too.

I just re read some things and it sounds like you have a ton of speakers already so what the heck are we talking about here? Doh!

Buy some great lighting!!!!!

knardini...are you talking about equipment purchasing only? I would certainly look long and hard at marketing...have you thought about giving your website a facelift? Without marketing your brand spanking new speakers will sit in your storage area gathering dust...

Yep, marketing is in the works too, including new site, a couple wedding shows a year and brochures galore. This money right now is strictly gear. I think we've setteled on the JBL SRX system with QSC amps. Plan on using it Feb. 12th....will definelty take pics and video :) Thanks for all the insight, it's helped a lot!
