One upgrade ~ from Radio Shack, lol. :)

The FOH gear we have now is fine for our purposes. We have no need to replace it.

Cerwin Vega to JBL. To tell you the truth if the CVs were a little more powerful I would still be using them

hummmmm.... upgraded or changed?

Let's see if I can remember them all

From 1st to current...

Home Stereo... Hitashi 310-U... And an 8" a 5" and a tweeter.... I did a couple of parties in my bedroom, if ya know what I mean? LOL

Radio Shack... 2 - 10's and a horn I believe
later on I added a bass cabinet that I got from a bass player, it had 4 12".. I believe it was a peavey....

The biggest leap of my career Peavey Project 1 speaker system, four speakers stacked to make the side, stood about 8 feet tall and I powered each side with 4 CS 800 amps. I bought that system with a trailer from a sound company.

Then I sorta went down to the Peavey 3020's cabinets, 2 15" 2 10" 1 mid horn and 1 tweeter in each cabinet,,, I had 4 of those..

I kept those and added 2 Peavey 218 sub cabs... 2 18's in each

Then I added 4 Peavey SP2 and I sold the 3020's to a band.

Then I went on a JBL MPro kick buying in the span of a year 2 - 415's and 2-412's, and 4 -218's

Then I bought a set of Techno Mads (look them up) water proof speakers..

at this point I had the Peaveys, JBL's and Techno-Mads....

I brought all that and of course the power amps with me to Maui.

I bought the BOSE system and sold all the Peavey and JBL's

So now I have the BOSE and the Techno Mads.

You guys and yer Bose... Young asked about upgrades. :D

(Aw I'm gonna catch hell for this.) ;)

I think it really depends on what you buy the first time around, and how your business changes. All equipment has a service life, so it may be replaced over time due to wear. When I was DJing I was doing several hundred shows a year, so even with maintenance that puts a lot of wear on a loudspeaker. I kept corners, handles and wheels, crossover parts, diaphragms and other parts on hand to ensure that my rigs were in operable condition for every show.

Speaker purchases should carry the consideration of the types of shows you do, sizes of venues, transportation, and of course, budget. I list budget last because frankly, a deal is no deal at all if it doesn't suit the purpose. First and foremost we need to ensure good sound to our clients.

I started with Yammies, then moved to Klipsch, then built my own BFD.

Initially it was about being cheap. My first setup was bought from a band that was breaking up. I added on a couple of times as other bands were breaking up. The Klipsch was the first "deliberate" purchase, and I used them for almost 7 years. I love the sound.

As I was getting into larger venues, I needed to expand again. Since the Klipsch KP series were out of production (and had been for a long time) I had a chance to start over. Building my own made the most sense given the scale of the system I need, and the $$$ available for the task. At this point, I'm "committed" and I will simply build to expand or alter this system as my business evolves.

None, My Mackie 1530's (USA) are still producing spectacular Chest Thumping Tunes! I will not buy another set until those workhorses croak. And I have had these since 2004!

Although my first gig used my family's bose speakers and my surround sound system (still in service in my room looking at it) it was only used once.

Home Speakers at first
TOAs in the early 80's (Still have them, as garage/shop sound system)
Mackie 1232s in 2003 with Mackie Fussion Subs in 2003 (Still have the 1232s)
Back saving upgrade to Mackie 450s and Mackie SRS1500s Subs (Still have them)
Bose 2 L1s 4B1s in 2008 these should hold be for a long time.
