How long do you wait before a follow up email/phone call?

Yes I am, I don't have the time or patience to deal with price shoppers, my rates are in the $1500 range, I don't offer any silly extras or ad ons, I do my job very very well, and have no trouble filling my calendar, I don't sub jobs out, I book what I want at a price I am comfortable with, I have been around long enough that my referrals don't question my skills, my 2013 calendar is full as is most of 2014. I will only work 3 weekends a month the rest are set aside for my family.

would you mind sharing your website with us? I would love to see you in action.

I don't have or need a website, never have like I said all business is referral, treat people the right way for 25 plus years and bookings come easy, I haven't spent a dime on advertising in the last 15 years. I take that back I do belong to several civic and fraternal organizations that have dues, a very good portion of my business come from the relationships, I have nurtured over the years with these groups.

Ok, to sum up (just so I can step aside and let the others have their say with this)

1. You have been in business since you were 15
2. You have not spent any money on advertising since you were 25, meaning in 10 years, you were able to build such a strong client base you just have a constant flow of clients coming in, and for half of those years, you were a teenager.
3. People are contacting you, and writing you a check for $1500 without any website to refer too or ANY type of explanation of what your services are.

Ok, I think I will sit back and enjoy what it about to happen now.

Thanks for the info but I'm quite certain that you're wrong. These aren't spam emails, they are inquiries that are being answered. Additionally, I have an opt-out in each message. Also, the volume is nowhere near what it would require to trigger a blacklisting. I've been doing this for several years with no problems. Something you also may not know is I ran a much larger list for musicians where I'd send out several thousand per week. As long as you follow the rules there will be no blacklisting.

You are right. My 15 years of experience as a Email admin/engineer means nothing. Sorry for trying to help, i will not make the mistake again.

on the first email I give them a time frame for emails

one is sent 7x days after then the last one is sent 15x days after
if its not of the do not book list by the 15th day
then I move on...

dont like it then you should have booked faster to secure me
your not the only client I deal with

9/10 they finish the booking after the 7x days
either saying I am out of thier budget or book me

have a nice day!

They didn't have much email 28 years ago ...

Hey, I was there. Started with my first computer company (HP) back in 82.

Please tell me that "7x days" means "seven days" and NOT "seven TIMES a day"

btw
I don't have a "plan"...I play treat each inquiry differently, based upon how serious they seem to be,
and how they respond to my initial reply.
But I do lean to the side of caution, as I don't like to be "hounded" myself.
If they are truly interested, they will let me know.
If I have to keep nudging them, then I probably don't want THEM any more than they want ME!

I have been in business since I was 16, people CALL me and I explain what I do, then we set up a meeting to go over it more thoroughly, at that point yes I have 99% conversion rate. a hand shake and a conversation go a lot farther than a few generic e-mails. Why would I invest money in a website when I am already comfortable with the income I am currently generating, I have 10 -15 years left in this business and need to save every penny I can for retirement, why spend it foolishly.

you can work it out how its done!

i'll leave it up to you to decide!

This may be hard for some to believe...but I have had similar success for the same reasons.
I didn't get a website until 2012.
99% of my business was always referrals and word of mouth.
In 30-years, I have not spent any money on advertising, and have not (personally) paid to be in bridal shows.
I have done 3, 4 and 5 gigs with the same family/group.
Now, I also work with a multi-op for some of my gigs, but that does not account for all of my work.
And I have no idea what the DJ business is like in Fennimore Wi.
So, even though my situation is not EXACTLY like his....
I am not that surprised that Mr. Tunes could have success on those terms.
