Love the O-clamp. Hate the C-clamp.

GJ
C-clamps are pretty useless on the thin wall aluminum tubes of my stands, they punch through (I tried on one years ago). I did notice my friend clamped the strobe on with a c-clamp (it was permanently on the strobe), but he put some thick rubber piece under the bolt, so it left minimal damage.

AND, the screw end left scratches on my nice and shinny pole...not additional comment necessary, Steve! LOL:joker:

I'm still recovering from Saturday's event and my back hurts just thinking about moving all those records and speakers. It definitely does look like they pulled the system out of a club in the 80's. You are really good because the last time I tried to play a record at a event for another DJ I had problems just putting the needle on the groove. My hands were so unsteady. When I look back I'm just amazed how much we got done back in the day. With the limited selection of Music we had on hand, we always had something good to play. We were always able to find it no matter how on organized our collection was.

Thankfully we didn't need to break down the speakers after the event. My friend is planning a series of these at the event building and they let him keep the speakers there. They are on HD casters, so we roll them over to an alcove, turn them around and they stay there .. He had painted the speakers an off-white to match the custom DJ console he had built (then covered with a facade for some reason) and they actually match the wall colors of the event building, so they blend right in. He had them trucked there on a day I wasn't available, so I was spared that exercise. :)

He and his son brought in the records .. so 1 less back breaker. There were enough others though, that I needed most of Sunday to recover from Saturday night.

I always had one of my 45 record box's labeled Hot Box. It contained many of my favorite floor packing songs. If I was looking for something to play and the current record was almost done, I could quickly pull one from the Hot Box and ready it for play. Happened many times during an event. I got to engrossed in trying to find the song I was looking for to play next and got caught with my pants down...sort of.

He had an old Gemini CD player for that, but it wasn't reliable (cut out twice). I'm going to bring my laptop next time.

Judging by your selfie, you could have been a replacement in the Blue Man Group.
How did you like that Elektralite dmx controller?
It was like some of the fancier DMX controllers, but was specific to those scanners. We had issues with the "programs" (auto, sound, chase, etc.) so I ran it manually most of the night. One thing I need to figure out is how to reverse the pan on the rear units so they all swing in the same direction with the joystick.

Agreed! I started with cassette singles CD's, so I cannot imagine how difficult it must have been with vinyl!

Heck, now you don't even need to collect music...just subscribe to Spotify and away you go via wi-fi and Bluetooth.

The kids these days...they have NO IDEA how easy they have it. Now get off of my lawn!

Yes I like mine specifically for the joystick. In "fine mode" it works pretty well for followspots. I bought a used one off Ebay quite a few years ago as I was initially drawn to it for it's compactness since I had not seen another 2u unit that had a joystick. What issues were you having with it's programs?

When we put it in any of the modes, occasionally we'd get one or 2 of the scanners stop working. Not sure why and I didn't want to dive into the programming guide as I'll only see them 1 or 2 times more.

I had it pretty easy spinning .. he gave me singles meant more as floor continuation songs than fillers, so they were loooonnnng. I had plenty of time to put another on and put one away neatly. I saw my friend struggling a bit with keeping things "neat" .. especially when he started handling requests.

TGFL ... Thank God for Libraries ... :)

Were they the hard wired or the wirelessly linked units doing this?

They've been replaced with playlists!

Actually, I do have a playlist (spreadsheet by decade, Artist, Song Title. The term I use is Database. However, due to the number of boxes and additions to each box the alpha letter sometimes had to be split between boxes of the same decade/artist. So, the database spreadsheet came in handy to determine IF I in fact had that particular requested song. I mean, come on, one knows most of the time if they have that particular song anyhow. It was easy to thumb across the 5x8 cards and find the song. They were somewhat separated by artists, but within a particular category like, Love Song or Rock or Oldie, Disco, 80's, 90's, Country.

I still have a Hot Box - just it's a playlist (in iTunes) now. ;)

We started hardwired for testing and added the wireless when they came in. Happened in both scenarios.

I rarely get the chance to see other DJ's at work.
Did you learn any tricks/secrets from watching your friend spin?
