Help with Homecoming Theme

The theme is "Something Happened On The Way To The Homecoming"

What exactly is that? "Like Alice in Wonderland meets Willy Wonka" is the description I got.

I'm thinking Lots of colors, slightly twisted, possibly some psychadelic music or intros.

Um. Ok.

I need suggestions for songs, activities, or ways of bringing the theme into the dance. I know all you geniuses will have ideas! Thanks so much. -Aaron

The only thing that comes to my demented mind right away is the old movie with Zero Mostel, "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum".

Will they be wearing togas? :D

Gonna sleep on this one, maybe by morning...I'll have some normal thoughts on this....

FOAM day

Today is FOAM day!

You may ask what does this have to do with homecoming? Nothing, allow me to explain. FOAM stands for Freinds Of Angelo Muscat. Angelo Muscat was one of the little people, Oompa Loompas in Willy Wonka. For those of you who remember the Prisoner series he also played the mute butler. He went uncredited in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. So today’s the day! The Friends Of Angelo Muscat, yes it is a small group, observe his memory every October 10th.

Between Alice and Willy you can do almost anything that makes little sense and be true to the theme. The problem is, will anyone know what you’re on about? Follow Ed’s lead and you open the door to another group of little people. Golly Toto, we’re not in Wonderland anymore.

Good luck Aaron.

Well, the dance is tonight and I finished a show opener. That is all I really have that goes with the theme, but I think that's OK.

I'm sharing the opener with you in low quality 64kbps format. Let me know what you think. I know it would probably be better (more interactive) to just do the music beds and sound effects and go live on the mic for the intro voice stuff, but this is my first real school gig and I have more confidence if I record it ahead of time...people won't necessarily have to know I'm not doing it live anyway.

Anyway, here is the mp3 intro. It includes the first song I'm going to play as well.

Intro 64 MP3 (2.9 MB)

That's great, mysouliehomie.

Suggestion (in case you haven't thought of it already): perhaps, during the intro of the first song, say something live for the sake of making a more human connection.

Aaron way too cool, very creative! Did you have video to go with? If not it was still awesome very impressive.

By the way how did the dance go?

Thanks, guys. Carolyn for now I don't have video, just sound and lighting effects. Keeping it simple and low cost.

The dance went well, aside from the unavoidable problem of gymnasium acoustics which drove me crazy. The kids and faculty had lots of compliments and it sounds like they might use me again for a formal in December. Can't ask for much more than that! :)
