You need to pack up yer gear and move South.

You need coverage for a small stadium size outdoors. You have 4 bands performing (we don't know who the headliner is). Mains, monitors, cabling, sound man, etc., etc., etc.
The biggest gig I ever played in a band, was about 10k people. We rented the biggest PA we could afford. It covered maybe 200-300 people, who could actually hear us decent...
Confucius say: If you put yer name out there in front of 2k people, and only 10% can hear the bands decently -- you not only make fool of self, but you piss off the bands, the faculty, the students, and they will all strive to know your name, and repeat their displeasure to the next 2 generations of humans...
Then again, you may luck out -- and they'll blame the bands

But you can fit a system for 2k into a semi. We did a show recently for Chris Tomlin for 3.5k people or so outdoors. Used a medium sized rig (run from a PM5D) with a separate monitor setup (also controlled on a PM5D). No opening band. Lighting was just PARs, rented staging too though. The rig ran about $7500 as I believe, but the sound fit into one semi. They brought their own sound guys.

Agreed. Running sound for an event that size isn't something we'd consider. We have neither the experience nor the equipment for it.
Live sound is a whole nother animal. Live sound outdoors... and for a college-age audience of that size, well you'd be better served to have them contract with a sound company.
Do it yourself and three things are gonna happen: One, you're going to work yourselves right in to the ground. Two, the bands are gonna look at you and think "These people are idiots." Third, they're gonna be riding your ass from the git go.
We all like to poke fun at musicians but I can tell you this: They're not stupid. Neither are their audiences.

You wouldn't believe what they do stuff for around here....
I did a wedding Sept 12. I was filler for the band (although I did more than them). I don't know what the band was paid but I got talking to the sound man who works for the prduction company. They charge $200 to do the show and they do quality work. There are some around that charge less than that

The Show I do every summer (which I posted the pics from) I have a professional sound company come in and setup a system Board, Amps, Speakers, 6 wireless Mics and processing, it cost me $800 for the day and I don't touch it other than to run the board and my computer!
I am sure I could get the same setup for bands as well, so it is not that expensive to hire a PROSOCO.
