just curious I am going to try it tonight new pc, new software, trusty back up with VDJ 7 ready to go if needed
has anyone used Virtual DJ 8 at a gig yet

I have run it through pretty hard in testing I would try it at a gig with that is all music. I am having some issues with the karaoke piece. But like you said my backup laptop would be wired into the rig with VDJ7 running and ready to go at a moments notice.
Will be using it tomorrow for the first live gig. Been testing it pretty heavy and the last update corrected the karaoke issue that was a show stopper for me.
I have still not used Virtual dj at an event yet. I did upgrade my copy to 8. Seems pretty good.
My 3 guys that use virtual dj said they've not used 8 yet, but love 7
It may be just because I've used ots for so long and don't have a ton of experience with virtual dj, but I find ots easier for me to use.
Please note.....I'm not saying ots is better. I'm saying I've used ots much longer so it's more comfortable. I have been using VDJ around the house and looking for reasons to switch.

Haven't used it out yet, but I'm liking some of the new features. It's gonna take a while to get comfortable with 8 because the layout is quite different. I like how things like changing the pitch percentage can be changed without going to the settings window. Smart looping makes loops come out perfect the first time and loop points can be saved. So much more!
I need to play around with it some more - i've gotten to be such an expert at 7 though that of course i hate 8 so far. I'm one of those that hates change though haha and i also believe in not fixing something that isn't broken...BUT we'll see how I feel after i spend some more time with it
As far as straight DJ'ing I have no issues with it... like you trying to get over the learning the curve. As far as using it for karaoke, it is taking a lot of getting used ot. The karaoke plugin on V7.4 is more intuitive. it is almost as if the karaoke feature on V8 was made by someone who thinks what features would be nice, but is not aware of some of the realities at a karaoke show.
It's been rock solid. I threw everything I had at it and it just smiled and spit the stuff out. Time to organize something in the next couple of weeks.
I will use it for the first time Saturday. Been messing with it in the studio for a week. I will have a backup with VDJ 7 with me.
I used it last night for the entire karaoke gig and had 2 times then the words on the screen lagged, only for about 5 seconds.
Ive just been playing around with it since it come out in beta. My plan is to use it next Saturday at an outdoor party. So far, its been rock solid here at home, and not afraid to use it LIVE for the first time.
